Allied World US Appoints Susan Chmieleski

Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG announced today that Susan Chmieleski has been appointed President, Professional Lines for Allied World U.S. In this role she will be responsible for the production and profitability of all departments underwriting directors & officers liability, errors & omissions liability and medical malpractice liability.

Ms. Chmieleski replaces John McElroy who was recently named Chief Operating Officer for Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG. Mr. McElroy had been President, Professional Lines for Allied World U.S. since 2008.

Gordon Knight, President for Allied World U.S., commented, “John has been instrumental to Allied World’s growth since joining the company in 2004. He opened the first U.S. office in New York, overseeing our expansion in the domestic marketplace. His dedication and leadership over the past eight years has been crucial to Allied World’s success.”

Knight continued, “Since 2008 Sue has led our Risk Management Department, assisting in the development of products for our healthcare business which help differentiate Allied World in this competitive market. Given her credentials and proven leadership, Sue will add tremendous value to our core underwriting units in Professional Lines. I am confident in her abilities.”

Ms. Chmieleski received her Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Hartford and she earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of ConnecticutSchool of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal. She holds Connecticut Law and Nursing Licenses and is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society for Risk Management and was a member of the Board of Directors. She is a faculty member at PLUS University and a current member of the PLUS Board.
