As a registered Bermuda charity, Sandys 360 has had financial support from government, the corporate community, and the general public. Dependent upon fundraising we are able to continue to provide not only support for youth development, but programmes and partnerships impacting families, seniors and the entire western community.

Sandys 360’s anniversary month celebrations began with a Thanksgiving service at Allen Temple AME Church on Sunday March 4. There is a deeply rooted history exists between Sandys Seconday School and Allen Temple, as many of the Founders of the school attended the church. The Trustees of the school have dedicated the 360 property for community usage.

The Anniversary Service was followed by the Wet N Wild Corporate & Community Challenge on March 9. Last year, they held a traditional 24 hour swim-a-thon. They had teams in the pool almost for the entire 24 hours last year, but this year it was arranged to a bit more fun while raising funds for our Youth Development Programmes.

A spokesperson said, “The event was a resounding success with hundreds flowing in and out of Sandys 360 over the 12 hour period. Staff Members of Sandys 360 were all too eager to join in the fun by going for a swim themselves. Members of the Sandys 360 Longtails started off the event by joining the Actively Aging Seniors after they had completed their weekly water aerobics’ class.

Other community groups included the Girl Guides and the Sharks Swim Club kept the energy and excitement level high during the early part of the afternoon. Members of the Masters Swim Clubs gave an interesting twist to the activities later in the evening.

“The next two events will be held on March 24. At 8pm we will be honouring exceptional athletes from the west end. Five will be inducted into the first Sandys 360 Wall of Fame. “Selected not only for their contribution to sports in Bermuda, but because of their unwavering support to the community,” laments John Barry Nusum-Sandys 360 Sports Director and former professional football player; “We want our youth to look into their community for role models and we have them” stated Mr. Nusum.

“Those selected for 2012 include Mr. K. Randolph Horton, Mr. Clyde Best, Mr. Norbert Simons, Mr. Alan Burland and Ms. Katura Horton-Perinchief. In addition, we plan to acknowledge former members of the former Somerset Bluebirds softball team. The Induction Ceremony begins at 8pm SHARP, with a short reception following. Admission is free!

Katura is probably the best diver to ever come out of Bermuda. She’s also pretty sexy too.
