April 18, 2012

In Magistrates Court yesterday [Apr.17], Devon Hewey, currently on remand on indictable charges of attempted murder and unlawful use of a firearm, re-appeared before Senior Magistrate Archie Warner for a bail hearing.

Crown Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney requested that Hewey should be kept on remand, while defence lawyer Shade Subair argued for Hewey’s release on bail.

At the end of the hearing that lasted an hour and twenty minutes, the Magistrate ordered that Hewey should remain in custody until a Short Form Preliminary Inquiry takes place on Friday 4th May.

In addition, another man was remanded into police custody for a 14 days period in connection with the same incident. He has not been charged, but is being held while police continue their investigation.

The shooting occurred around 3:45am on Saturday, March 24th on Reid Street Extension in the City of Hamilton and resulted in shots being fired into the windows of Sir John Swan’s Seon Place office building.
