The Clyde Best Invitational Festival 2012 got underway at the National Sports Centre northern field featuring six teams in action.

Clyde “Bunny” Best greeted the players from the United States, BFA National Academy and four local clubs during the first day of the three day festival.

A report after the first day from the BFA said, “In the opening matches, BFA National Academy 1998’s was put to the task against Richmond Harriers. Both teams displayed opportunities however it took a lone goal to separate the two sides, as the National Academy came away with a 1-nil victory.

“In the other opening match it was Dandy Town Hornets U-14’s vs. PHC Zebras U-14’s. Hornets outscored the Zebras 2-1, in their game. Thanks to David Jones, who netted twice for the Hornets in the 4th and 27th minute. Zebras leveled the score in the 10th minute, when Isaiah Robinson found the back of the net.

“Meantime for the first time ever the (CBIF) show cased women’s competition. The BFA National Academy U-17 girls vs. Bermuda Select Women, while visiting FC Virginia of Virginia vs. Bermuda Senior Women. The BFA National Academy U-17’s held on to their victory 1-nil victory. The lone goal came in the second-half. Meanwhile, it was visiting FC Virginia, coming away with a 2-nil win over the Bermuda Select Women. Their goals came in the first and second half’s.

“The night cap featured two high scoring games compared to the previous four games. The match featuring BFA National Academy 1996’s vs. PHC Zebras U-16’s. In particular, this game produced 11 goals in total. BFA National Academy found the back of the net seven times, while the Zebras came away four times.

“When the final whistle blew it was the BFA National Academy 7 vs. PHC Zebras U-16’s 4. The other game was just as entertaining; visiting Princeton SC of New Jersey sent out a warning to the local clubs as they walked over North Village Rams U-16’s 7-2.

Yesterday [Apr.14] visiting Princeton defeated the North Village Rams Under 16’s 7 – 3, while the National Academy 1996 defeated the PHC Zebras Under 16’s 7 – 4.

In Women’s play, visiting Virginia defeated the Bermuda Select 1 – 0, while the National Academy Girls Under 17 team defeated the Bermuda Senior Women team 1 – 0.
