Bermuda Motors Hire Three Ex-HWP Staff

May 14, 2012

Bermuda Motors has added three new employees to its body and paint shop. Paint technician Michael Dill and body shop technicians Leon James and Michael Yarde were made redundant after fire destroyed HWP’s paint shop in August last year but the three Bermudians have now joined the team at Bermuda Motors.

All three technicians are A1-qualified – the industry’s highest professional qualification – and Bermuda Motors’ customers will benefit from their more-than 100 years of experience in the automotive trade.

Michael Butler, General Manager of Bermuda Motors, said: “We’re delighted to add three such experienced technicians to our paint and body department. We always aim to provide fast, top quality repairs and their experience and expertise can only help us improve our customer service.”

Mr. Butler said that with a staff of 13, Bermuda Motors was now the Island’s premier paint and body shop. “We’d like drivers to know that we not only repair the cars we sell – BMW, Fiat, Ford, Kia, Mini and Toyota – but all makes and models on the Island, from Chevrolet to Volkswagen.”

  1. LMAWTFO says:

Now everyone knows why the English guys file was rejected! Bermuda, we got something right!!!! Finally!!

  2. Mountbatten says:

Which raises the question , Why didn’t Far East Imports offer one of these guys the plum job that they were offering Stephen ‘Spike’ Tomlinson ? Anyone of the masters could panel beat and spray . How do you think Mr. Tomlinson honed his “Specialist Skills ?” Thanks Bermuda Motors for taking care of your own people .

    • What about the People says:

Far east imports may have had no intention of hiring a Bermudian.

And the OBA says we should get rid of Term Limits, what a bunch of jokers.

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

Thats a lie or perhaps you are misinformed as the OBA have stated they would suspend the term limits for 2 years in the hopes to put in place a revised version.

        LOL

    • andre says:

      Maybe a boycott?

    • Family Man says:

But isn’t Bda Motors owned by the Gibbons Family, which, you know, is the old whitey, UBP. I’m confused (but not in the way LaVerne refers to us).

    • David says:

Maybe Far East did not have a crystal ball, if the spray painter did not answer the add how would Far East know he was available. Where did the other (HWP) person that has been in Bermuda on a work permit for over 20 years go, amazing he is still working here. Is it because he was not English?

  3. OBA Voter says:

So you guys took the work permit guy’s job after 20 years. I hope you learned something from him or I’m taking my car to the UK.

    • Ride says:

      @OBA Voter

Your comment portrays you The Fool. Read the statement. The three men have over 100 years experience between them; over 33 years each on average. They hold the highest qualification their industry can convey. More likely, Mr Tomlinson could learn much from any one of these gentlemen individually. By the way, where is it mentioned the qualifications that Mr Tomlinson had? I’m like to ascertain why you’d suggest that they should have sought his tutelage.

It seems very reasonable that with these individuals seeking employment (well qualified and experienced) that Mr Tomlinson would be notified that his opportunities here had come to a close.

      Be sensible.

      Ride

    • LOL says:

FYI OBA voter, a qualified Bermudian is supposed to take precedence over a work permit holder. It seems we have 3 qualified Bermudians here, so what’s the problem again?

    • andre says:

      A*%$ole!

    • mixitup says:

Comments like these are the reasons why I cannot stand side by side with OBA voters. Not even a simple congratulations! And the assumption that they are not Good Enough SMDH – Sad indeed.

    • mixitup says:

So you guys took the work permit guy’s job after 20 years.

HOLD ON LET ME READ THIS AGAIN!? “TOOK” WHO’S JOB? *wiping my coffee off my laptop”

    • 1minute says:

I doubt he is an OBA voter… Sounds like he just wants to stir the pot…

      • Come Correct says:

He/she is stirring the pot, they’ve done it before, thats what they do, pose as an oba voter to make them sound like they arent for the people. Can we please be done with this crap and just vote on a party that has our best interests in mind? Due to the past few years i dont think thats the plp, and from what i see the oba needs to continue building their team, it has alot of potential but its still weak, now if we combined the 2 parties and voted in the people we felt were right for the job, then we might get somewhere…personally im tired of running in place.

    • JAWS says:

      I can’t trust this group. I guess I’ll swim into a whale.

  4. g-gurl says:

    Congrats gentlemen !

  5. tricks are for kids.. says:

All said and done..the Tomlinson story is so LAST WEEK…..can we not focus and move on…..

    • Mountbatten says:

Actually ,T.A.F.K , your very wrong . The Tomlinson case crystallizes the employment malpractice’s that is unfortunately prevalent in Bermuda . Since Mr.Tomlinson highlighted it and brought it to the fore , it will be used as a case study going forward .

      • tricks are for kids says:

@ Mountbatten why I commented as I did was merely this…Tomlinson’s name is mentioned NOWHERE in this article BUT YET his name is drawn into this…..like I said (and I stick by it) he was so LAST WEEK….stick to the article at hand, congradulate the gentlemen, AND MOVE ON……

    • Concerned says:

Agreed – lets move on to more positive remarks.

Congratulations to gentlemen and Bermuda Motors

  6. imjustsaying says:

Thank you Bermuda Motors for looking looking out for Bermudians… I will patronize your company …

  7. British says:

Nice to see a positive story. Well done gents.

  8. Patricia says:

Congratulations to the gentlemen and thank you to Bermuda Motors. Won’t be taking my car there for any repairs though. You know how much that company charges for service and parts. Too expensive for me.

  9. GVT Mechanic says:

Great to see this, well done guys.

  10. 5boro says:

Congratulations gentlemen! Well done Bermuda Motors!

  11. Congratulations gentlemen – congratulations to you too Bermuda Motors whos owned by the Gibbons family. This move brings Bermuda Motors to having almost a 90 percent bermudian work force with most of the workers of black heritage. Gibbons along with the OBA believe in investing in bermudians and creating jobs unlike any PLP business or company. ooops.. WHAT PLP BUSINESS OR COMPANY – they ain’t got none! Look…. at the next election vote for a party that believes in Bermuda – vote OBA and we’ll all be okay.

    • Tommy Chong says:

NOT TRUE! There are some PLP members who have shares in the major restaurant chains in Bermuda. Surely everyone knows how these chains love to hire Bermudians over foreigners we can count the amount of Bermudians working at each of these restaurants on one hand. I know some of these workers & they tell me how much they love being bossed around by foreign managers & staff that have about the same work skills they. Oh! Wait a minute! My apologies about the last statement since these Bermudians have taken the restaurant course needed to get the job that their foreign counterparts didn’t need to take to be hired their skills are above those of their manager & staff.

  12. Apples says:

As long as they make work on time, try and curtail the BBing ,try not to call sick once a week and use the term “das not my job” they should be ok ,oh and lunch break is not two hours!

    • Tommy Chong says:

You need to stick some diapers on your hands when you type. Do you think these guys would have so many years of work experience or have maintained a job at HWP IF they had not maintain good work principles?!?!?!? Also when have you heard a bermudian say, “das”? If you’re going to quote a Bermudian accent at least quote it right & not make it sound like the muppets swedish chef. Borgies! Borgies! Borgs! Das reit ja!
