Photos/Video: Beginning Of Middle-To-End Walk

May 5, 2012

The Middle-to-End officially kicked off at 10am from Albouys Point in Hamilton today [May.5] with walkers starting their trek to Dockyard after a warm-up exercise session. The gathered participants were addressed by Catlin President Graham Pewter, Health Minister Zane Desilva and Jon Borrill, one of the founders of the End to End in 1988.

Participants started to arrive at Albouys Point early and although there was a large crowd at the official start time of 10am, many had started earlier. As the group made their way to Middle Road, some would meet up with others that started the End-to-End from St. George’s earlier.

Refreshment stops along the route were stocked with items such as water, sliced oranges, bananas and more. Many had music playing to encourage the walkers, and one stop had an appearance by a gombey troupe.

The annual event, now in its 25th year, raises pledge dollars from the participants and traditionally takes place the first Saturday in May. This years event will raise funds for charities including Age Concern, The Adult Education Centre, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Open Airways, The Family Centre, St. John Ambulance, and Youthnet.
