Tropical Storm “Potential Threat” To Bermuda
The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] said that Tropical Storm Alberto is a “potential threat to Bermuda.” As of 6am this morning [May 21] the BWS said Alberto is approximately 771 nautical miles west of Bermuda.
The system’s closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 385 nautical miles to the west north-west at 3am on Wednesday May 23rd.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said that Alberto has sustained winds of 40 mph [65 km/h] with higher gusts, and it is presently moving at approximately 5 mph in a south easterly direction.
The 2012 Hurricane Season got off to an early start this year, with Tropical Storm Alberto — the first named storm of the season — forming yesterday. The 2012 Atlantic hurricane season officially starts on June 1st and runs until November 30th.
