Video: Union Lifts Boycott Of KFC Bermuda

May 22, 2012

The Union’s boycott of KFC Bermuda has been lifted effective immediately, Bermuda Industrial Union President Chris Furbert said this afternoon [May 22]. The boycott had been in place since April 13, 2012, although whether it had any substantial impact on KFC’s business sales is unclear. The BIU has been embroiled in an ongoing dispute with KFC since last year, and the case has now gone to arbitration.

  1. Somebody is making sense... says:

as if anyone [in Bermuda] was seriously boycotting KFC just because Brother Chris said so…laughable

    • Shame says:

Sorry to let you know that there were a lot of people abiding by the boycott, this is why it was effective.

I know you may not realise it but the BIU and Trade Unions mean something to a lot of people. Maybe not to you.

      • Somebody is making sense... says:

the effectiveness you refer to was probably nullified by the number of people who normally don’t frequent KFC but did so just to lend support to the KFC and to defy the nonsense that comes out of Brother Chris’s mouth.

        • Pat says:

Boycott? What Boycott? I ate there more times in the last month than I have in the last 10 years. Boycott? Ha – more like EPIC FAIL for Furbit.

      • Yeah, right says:

I highly doubt this “boycott” had any impact on KFC’s business.

Unions were necessary once upon a time but now they mostly protect/breed laziness and incompetence.

      • Come correct says:

        Effective? Please elborate for me…

      • Finger Licking Good!! says:

Oh the great and wise one has lifted the boycott. Those people who abided to the boycott are nothing but followers. If it went on any further it surely would have effected staff salaries and job security. Then Chris Furbert would have claimed another conspiracy by KFC. Its either his way or the highway.

      • Boycott? What boycott? says:

KFC has been busier since Ludi-Chris announced the boycott than I’ve seen it for months.

    • Out of flight says:

Rumour has it the Executive could not function without their chicken so their stomachs gave in. Basically their strategy failed. Ask alvin Williams where all of the worker loyalty has gone.

      • navin johnson says:

and where has Alvin gone?…not that I miss his columns mind you….

        • Dennis Williams says:

watch that talk….My father is fine thank you…….

          • Dennis Williams says:

His columns appear in the workers voice still if you’re really interested….Also may I add….he writes letters to the media all the time…but they won’t print them….free speech isn’t so free regardless of the picture some want to paint……I don’t know what they are afraid of….

            • star man says:

Does Alvin “the bullet” Williams not know how to use a computer…? Maybe the forums and blogs would be a better place for him to get his ideas across. Although, I admit, I do not miss his column in the MON because I never read it.

              • Dennis Williams says:

My dad is near pension age….you think people his age in general sit up on computers and blog with divisive people like you starman or whatever your name is…stop hiding especially when you want to critize others….. He has seen and experienced more about Bermuda then you will ever know…..I know of many people closer to his age both black and white that appreciate his writings….

    • Victory says:

Thank the stars Chris failed to make the score.

      Fat People 1 – Chris Furbert 0

Chris will be the first one in there buying chicken for May 24th. lol

    • LOL says:

I had KFC two weekends ago for the first time in years. Tasted good too.

  2. Cocoa Bay says:

Thank God – Just in time. Can’t go parade without a bucket of chicken.

    • so-n-so says:

i just spit my water all over my keyboard reading this comment hahaha

  3. Finger Lickin' Good says:

Brother Chris didn’t want the embarrassment of witnessing all the discarded KFC boxes scattered in Bernard’s Park on Thursday

  4. terry says:

    It’s gone to abitration. Simple.

Makes it seem too dumies that have have one a battle.

    Garbage.

  5. See Saw says:

And take dat to de bank! LOL

  6. allcloggedup says:

No need for boycott anyway….workers didn’t walk out. I got mine last friday as did several others including BIU members.

    • LaVerne Furbert says:

How did you know they were BIU members? Did they have their membership cards pinned on their shirts?

      • FaVerne says:

How did you know they were FLQ embers? Did they have their Oyster Shaving Permits ginned on MaGerts?

      • pepper says:

lavern. the B.I.U. is finished the former members have ssen the light.. you and brother chris are history…

      • Finally left! says:

BIU members are in the papers and videos just about everyone month for one thing or another..

        …they’re basically B-list celebrities here.

      • AMEN says:

No Mrs. Furbert they didn’t hace their membership cards pinned on their shirts, but I could clearly see their uniforms….as well as their embossed PTB overalls.

  7. GVT Mechanic says:

I saw a BIU guy in there on Saturday. The place was busier than ever – I even asked the girl serving me, she said they hadn’t seen any difference!

  8. Finger Licking Good!! says:

I never stopped eating there because looking at the tough economic times we are in I wanted to make sure the staff at KFC maintain job security and pay. Chris Furbert I don’t of any company that can make money out of nothing. You obviously didn’t give it much thought before pulling the trigger. Don’t let you ego or thirst for power impede your ability to make sound and proper decisions.

  9. Jammys says:

What has the BIU done with the worker’s pension money?

    • Family Man says:

Invested it in a soon-to-be-built sports complex secured by Bermuda real estate.

  10. Honesty says:

Not that I care…but bring back McDonalds? lol

  11. SpecialGIrl4You says:

KFC in the report they release last week, did in deed say that the Union boy-cott did impact KFC. SO many of you have been sleeping if you were not aware of that fact.

    • Babs says:

Please SpecialGirl4You – invest in a dictionary and brush up on your grammar. It’s hard enough trying to make sense out of the drivel that spews from your keyboard without having to try to decipher your spelling and grammatical errors as well. Your unintelligent, nearly illiterate and often insulting posts only prove that you have nothing of value to say. Empty vessels make the most noise (ask someone to explain that to you).

      • Finger Licking Good!! says:

I gess dat maks u a mt vasal. Soo ur saeing wee gonna have 2 stae bhind afta skewl. An lern.

      • Mbaya Avunaye says:

Babs ease up on Specialgirl. If she is following Chris Furbert, what do you expect? His favourite word is ‘basely’ (basically) I tell you one thing though there is hope. Empty barrels make the most noise but in the hands of an expert, they make the most beautiful steelpan music.

    • Legal Reasons? says:

only one person on this entire island insists on spelling boycott the way SpecialGIrl4You does. hello Betty Trump!

      • Finally left! says:

lol at least its got the o, instead of boy-cutt this time :P

    • Franklin says:

of course it impacted them… I’ve had it twice since this nonsense was announced, after a personal KFC drought of many years! I know a considerable number of people (given my sample size) in the same boat

    • star man says:

“KFC in the report they released last week, did indeed say that the Union boycott did impact KFC.” (made a couple of corrections for ya. Say thanks!)

It was the best thing to happen to KFC in 20 odd years!! That’s the impact, SpecialNeedsGirl.

  12. Mad Dawg says:

Is Chris Furbert going to pay himself back that $1.2m he lent?

    • LaVerne Furbert says:

Which $1.2m are you talking about Mad Dawg?

      • Hmmmmmm says:

Where are the pension funds, where are the overdue audited financials?

      • FaVerne says:

Which Rum-joint Shoe are you convulsing about, Glad Frog?

  13. Mountbatten says:

Chris , for once your plan worked . All of your enemies have voluntarily signed on and paid top dollar for blocked arteries and high cholesterol . Good job .

  14. The nitty gritty says:

Pure entertainment for a dollar a day or free right here!

  15. LAN says:

Every time y’all put KFC on the news it makes me want some & I’m sure I’m not the only one

  16. TheFuture says:

Oh well. There goes a temporary increase in Bermuda’s health.

    • Come Correct says:

Do you use a cell phone? Fried chicken should be the least of your health concerns. If you dont, you’re being effected for nothing. Notice that story disappeared a few years ago huh?

  17. Runna says:

    THANK YOU LORD!

  18. Runna says:

THANK YOU LORD! I was getting tired of being de runna for my BIU friends who were boycottin the boycott!

  19. Man in the Mirror says:

Just in time for the New Governor to stop by for lunch after his swearing in ceremony.

  20. Bum-By says:

Well through learnt situations I have come to understand that Mr. Furbert has an audience of followers that can and will be so dedicated that even a chicken bone will cause them to loose focus, also they should merge the P.H.C. & B.I.U. calling it the B,I.P.H.C.U.
An acronym for But I Pesonaly Have C%$#@$ U. tittled for both B.I.U. & P.H.C. Members.

  21. By The People, For The People says:

I don’t know what it is, but I’m indescribably attracted to LaVerne Furbert whenever she makes a divisive comment. While I’m aware that most of what she says is debilitating, carefully worded propaganda meant to capitalize on the poor education and misinformation of the demographic she claims to fight for (struggling black families) and drive them into further socio-economic despair for the sake of her own ego, for some reason her hate speech truly inspires in my soul a primal, insatiable lust for lies and BS.

  22. cant believe it says:

    UMMMMMMMMMMMMM
    MR CHICKEN IS WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER

ASK FOR HOT SAUCE AND LETTUCE AN MAYO N KET AND IT IS BIGGER AND BETTER THAN ANY KFC ZINGER…WHY DO PEOPLE BOYCOTT MR.CHICKEN??? GO THERE AND SUPPORT THAT BUSINESS

  23. Bum-By says:

Hey there goes a Chicken lets make it a member, and with a lack of representation we can soon have it in the pot and we will not need to go to Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Might even start to have our staff multitask so as to run our own chicken outlet.
