Tropical Depression ‘Potential Threat’ To Bermuda

June 27, 2012

Tropical Storm Debbie — the fourth named storm of the 2012 Atlantic season — has been downgraded to a depression, which the Bermuda Weather Service said is a “potential threat to Bermuda.”

The BWS said the closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 159 nautical miles to the northwest at 11pm on Friday June 29.

Accuweather reports that, “While Debby is not forecast by AccuWeather.com meteorologists to become a powerful hurricane, it could bring tropical storm conditions to Bermuda as it approaches later Friday and departs early Saturday.

“Rough seas, stiff breezes and squally showers and thunderstorms from Debby are likely in Bermuda waters. It is possible that locally damaging wind gusts and minor power disruptions occur for a brief time.”

Tropical Depression Debby headed into the Atlantic Ocean today [June 27] after deluging Florida with buckets of rain that triggered flooding statewide, and killed three people including a 32-year-old mother who died while trying to shelter her 3-year-old daughter.

From where I sit in Colorado right now I’ll take the tropical storm anyday.

There are 9 major wildfires in the state. One has consumed over 250 homes in the past 3 days & burned over 156 sq miles. Think about it, almost 8 times the area of Bermuda. I can see the smoke from 50 miles away.

Another, near Colorado Springs, has forced the evacuation of 35,000 people from their homes & destroyed over 50 homes so far.

The third is threatening the city of Boulder & has thousands more on standby to evacuate their homes.

The wind is up & the humidity is something like 5%.

Send the tropical storm this way. These people are desperate for rain to put the fires out. Makes the dump fire we had look like a match burning.
