Teenager Pleads Guilty: Handling A Firearm

July 23, 2012

19-year-old Darrion Simons of Pembroke pleaded guilty to knowingly handling a firearm in Supreme Court this morning [July 23], just prior to the start of his scheduled trial.

Mr Simons was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date. The judge ordered social enquiry report with Mr Simons set to re-appear in Court at a future arraignment session.

The incident occurred in November of last year, and after the incident, a Police spokesman said that at about 2:30am on Saturday, November 5th, officers were on uniform patrol in the vicinity of the former Clayhouse Inn on North Shore Road in Devonshire.

Police observed two men near a parked motor vehicle. On seeing the officers the two men attempted to avoid police by driving off on a motorcycle resulting in a brief pursuit. They were stopped and detained a short distance away.

Luv u harry. Keep ya head up. X0

    • JR says:

Are you seriously telling him keep his head up when he outright did something wrong – and to THIS extent?!

Bermuda is the way it is because of people like you. That seems like an encoruaging statement to me. But then again, you wouldn’t know until it hits home and he shoots someone you know “from the other side” causing death. Yea right, tell him keep his head up then.

      • Said n Done says:

Like u have never had a loved one locked up before girl shut up yes she told him to keep his head up meaning stay strong ya a** she isn’t condoning what he’s done so chill d f**k out and stop acting like your whole family are holier than thou you would need to remember he is still human n no matter what his family will stick by him good or bad

        • JR says:

I actually have a family member around the same age locked up right now and NO, I’m not telling him to keep his head up because he knew what he was doing when he was doing it.

When I go to visit him I constantly remind him that he was wrong and I still love him but in no way am I condoning what he has done. I tell him it’s better out there for him and he needs to make better choices.

I don’t understand how my previous comment makes me think that my whole family is holier. Lol. STFU.

  2. STICK HIM WITH A FORK BECAUSE HE IS DONE!!! says:

We aint gonna see him for years which is a good thing! Decades even!Too much of this gun stuff going on in our country today and it is RUINING Bermuda! So yes make an EXAMPLE out of this guy before another family looses a loved one!

    • What Next says:

I totally agree with you on this one make a GOOD EXAMPLE out of him.
Soon as they get caught the first thing you hear is not my son he did not do that
and people are not stupid they know who the trouble makers are out there.

  3. The People's Champion says:

    Guns are bad, mmkay

  4. nsb says:

  5. GazaGirl.... says:

You people NEVER have nothing positive to say…. Sometimes you all just need to shut up because your comments are not worth it *not interested*

    • bda says:

what positive sh*t can you say about dis @$$

      • peer pressure says:

Know the story first! no need for name calling. It could be your child one day.

        • JR says:

AND SO WHAT if it’s that person’s child? I’m sure they won’t condone it. That’s whats wrong with most parents these days. They think that because it’s their child, they should stick up for them. NO. Wrong is wrong. I would not feel sorry in any way for them if this was the situation they put themself in.

    • The People's Champion says:

Your syntax is appalling. “Never have nothing positive to say” didn’t they teach you about double negatives in primary school? According to what you said, “us people” only have positive things to say. If you had instead wrote “You people NEVER have anything positive to say” then your post would match what you were thinking. Keep up with this times, GG

    • Michael Dudden says:

And, what positives things to say are there here, if you don’t mind me asking? Sweet FA!!

  6. Citizen says:

Unless they had gun residue on him or fingerprints it was dumb to plead guilty. He is going to get at least 10 years regardless of whether he wasted the courts time or not. Young boy had so much potential, but chose to live that gangster lifestyle. Life is all about the choices you make.

    • richard says:

Citizen that the case with most of them before things got bad in Bermuda most of these guys had chances to go out and get work they chose this life. just because your from a low income area Don’t mean you have to become a gang member and yes I am from so called back of town. Yes hold your head up and face the music. Now what if the police had not stop these fools? Think about it! But wait what am I saying even if they would have killed somebody some of you would still be supporting them (cause their human) well the person they MIGHT have kill or shot that night would have been HUMAN as well.

  7. PERSON says:

  8. free harry #sb says:

Hold ya head up bra..i love n miss u kid.. guidance n protection

  9. Uneasy says:

It’s a shame that he has thrown years of his life away like this. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to him, because they are going to burn this young men on sentencing day. Maybe he’ll come out a better person.. My Bermuda, what has become of you?

    • What Next says:

Lets hope they do burn him on sentencing day. Plenty of time for him to wear his nice gold chains n sharp clothes in westgate.

      • Still Trying to get it Right says:

Actually, let’s hope that the appropriate sentence is vetted out in accordance with what is mandated on our law books. Anything more or less would be a perversion of justice.

  10. Nuffin but de Truth! says:

    so where’s the gun?

  11. sml says:

Too bad Harry. Keep your head up and learn from this.

  12. Me says:

    Good work BPS!!

  13. Duh says:

Smart yooooo guilty 4 handling not possesion lol 2 years max :) proud of u

    • JR says:

He probably pleaded guilty cause he knew that if he came out, he couldn’t be caught slipping. He just [guaranteed] himself another “2″ years of life. Probably the smartest thing he’s ever done.

  14. Gaza says:

Keep ya head up bra! F da haters… See u soon my n$#ga *GazaWorld*

    • BdaLuvin says:

Gaza?? Have you been to Gaza???? You fools are wanna be thugs and gangsters living on a luxury island fighting over what WEED???
MOST of you dumbass “Gaza” reppin kids never even left the Island! Leave the rock and educate yourselves you all live in a RICH ISLAND trying to act ghetto and ish. THIS PISSES ME OFF!! Do you know the people that live in GAZA and other war torn countries would do anything to live in Bermuda. Not waking up to the sound of gun shots and bombs. Let alone the loss of a family member because of war. You kids don’t know anything about GAZA so STOP trying to rep it.

IDIOTS!! YOUR PARENTS NEED TO BE SLAPPED AND SO DO YOU ALL! ugh!
      - Concerned parent and citizen!

    • Mad Dawg says:

Yes, you’re right about one thing. Most of us ( normal people) do hate idiots like this with their frikkin guns. We’d actually like them to disappear off the face of the earth. They’re boring. They’re sick. They ruin things for everyone else. Many people do genuinely hate their guts. I wish they’d all f off and shoot each other if that’s what they enjoy. Get it over with.

  15. GazaGurl#2 says:

See u REAL soon Harry! Regardless of the situation u STILL have nuff supporters behind u! Keep ya head up high and do what u gotta do in dea. I know u will. Family won’t betray Family.
    X0 x0 x0 x0 X0
    U KNO DAT!!

  16. Still Trying to get it Right says:

I can’t say that I am surprised by some of the comments on this post.

Just as this young man was a promising athlete, representing Bermuda at one point in his life, let this be a “warning” to those who stand in judgement now, that this could be your child, your nephew, your god child, your cousin, etc.

While I agree that wrong is wrong and should be dealt with accordingly, I also feel strongly – “JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED.” It is to be said KARMA is a bitch, I hope for you that should a time come and you have to deal with ONE of your own being in this position, that you can handle the heat.

Oh and I don’t want to hear no NONSENSE about no not mine, because sadly we live in different times and in the blink of an eye, even the ones that won’t seemingly ever resort to this kind of “behaviour”, can easily shift.

We all make mistakes in life, we all make poor choices. To Darrion – YES, keep your head up…allow this experience to be one that changes your perception of life, yours and others. To his family and friends, there is no need to defend anything that anyone has to say, Darrion has always been more than what his current situation is, hold onto what you know and leave the BS talk for all of those that think they know. Encourage him to a path of peace and love, not justification.

By no means am I minimizing the seriousness of this crime as it is serious and as a citizen of this country I am more than tired of the madness. Same way, each and everyone of us need to look deep within and determine what, if anything, are we going to do to be a source of the change that is required in order to turn our Island back around. If you think for one moment that Darrion and others that are either serving time or still on the street, aren’t your problem, well think again and come up with a different persepctive because as long as you think that, we’ll continue to have the problems we are facing in this country.

You may also want to start asking questions like – 1) there were two teenagers reported in the initial incident – one remanded the other bailed – why or how so? 2)Do you feel comfortable with the one being on the inside getting the punishment he seemingly deserves while the other still roams our streets? 3)What role, if any, is the wheeling and dealing of the Public Prosecutions Department playing in the on-going feud? Don’t get stuck on the surface, dig a little deeper…You might just uncover something bigger than what you see or what is reported on this site or others. ALL wars are manipulated by a force bigger than the participants of the war…

It is really sad what Bermuda is coming to. Such a young and smart kid who had so much going for him in his future and for making a mistake like this look where it has taken him, behind bars in a four wall room with such little space and no very limited freedom. I do not support nor condone such actions even if it was my family member being put behind bars because at the end of the day wrong is wrong and if we support such actions like this where we be in the next 10 years if the violence is already out of control. I really hope that he serves a good amount of years in jail so that it could be a lesson learned for him so that he comes out on a clean slate and do better for himself. Most of these young man don’t see that them be followers only take them where they don’t want to end up and that is either in jail or 6 feet under. Come on Bermuda we are too small to have gangs and way too tiny to have issues with people who live in different parts of the island, remember most of us are related and only find out when it is too late. I do feel sorry for some parents who are home thinking they have children that are not doing anything wrong and than they see their kids on the news and even on the paper but honestly something has to give before it is too late.
As a small island we should be sticking together and making sure that all this violence comes to an end it makes me sick knowing that so many people know whose out there planning these murders and even know the ones doing it and no one is coming forward, and yes I believe many are scared because look at the police system we have I don’t always believe they are out to protect us, at times I feel like many are doing under the table work themselves but this HAS TO COME TO AND END BEFORE OUR LITTLE ISLAND GETS WASHED AWAY.

  18. Liz says:

To his parents my heart goes out to you. Stay strong he is young and it is a hard world out there. All we can do as parents is stand by our children no matter!

    • JR says:

His mother is a good person/parent and I know she must be disappointed. Hopefully she puts some good, stern words in him and he comes out and changes for the better. If he doesn’t, it’s time for her to pack his bags.

      • Mad Dawg says:

Rubbish. ‘stern words’? You think that will make a difference?

        Put him in jail.

        • JR says:

It might just make a difference.

I never said don’t put him in jail, I hope he does a lengthy sentence. Hopefully he turns out like the guys in that video that bernews posted a few weeks ago.

          • Liz says:

Like I said my heart goes out to the mother. YOu can not controll what your son does but it her heart that is hurting and reading all this garbage because people always have something to say is hurtful. SO TO HIS MOTHER MY PRAYERS AND MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU FROM ONE MOTHER TO ANOTHER> Stay strong and stand by your son you are all he has. It is a hard road but the crying will stop and God will be there to help you and your son through this.

  19. Family Over Everything says:

We both know that you have already learned from your experience and the mistake that you have made. All I want you to remember is that you can still live your dreams as you have NOT wasted any of your talents. You will be out real soon, so do your time like a man and when you get out you can move forward like a man cause you know we are all here for you.
Yes you have done wrong but do not let the negative comments hold you back from being the intelligent well-rounded person I know that you are.
I love you like life, keep your head up and I will see you REAL soon. <3
