Drug Smuggling Charges: Two Bermudians Arrested

July 31, 2012

Two Bermudian men  were arrested on suspicion of smuggling illegal drugs from New Jersey to Bermuda, after an investigation which involved the U.S Department of Homeland Security and the Bermuda Police.

A police spokesperson said: “An extensive investigation involving the Department of Homeland Security and the Bermuda Police Service resulted in the arrest of two (2) Bermudian men who were engaged in smuggling illegal drugs to Bermuda from the State of New Jersey, USA.

“This combined law enforcement effort enabled officers to identify and disrupt an organized crime network which prevented dangerous drugs from reaching our community.

“This operation is evidence of the Bermuda Police Service’s and our partner agencies commitment to combat the trafficking of illegal drugs into Bermuda.

“Investigations into this seizure continue and the BPS encourage members of the public to report their suspicions or knowledge of illegal activity either directly to the police or confidentially via Crime Stoppers on 800-8477.

“It should be noted that the investigation involving overseas activity is complex and time consuming operation. Now that arrests have been made and court appearances are anticipated, the Bermuda Police Service is not able to make any further comment at this time.”

Unofficial reports indicate that one of the persons arrested was employed in the postal mail field.

Some people don’t understand innocent until proven guilty and it looks like you are one of them, and no I don’t know who these two are at this present time

Maybe if we had better faith in our own Judges and Judicial system we might believe that a bit more. Lately it has been – he who has the best lawyer wins! Just because on is not found to be guilty does NOT mean they were innocent. It just meaens the prosecution could not “prove” they did it. Many times than not evidence is left out, cases are thrown out and the “guilty” are freed. It does not mean they were innocent. We have all seen many exaples of this over the years here.

Im not saying these two are guilty and I have no idea who they are, and I hope I don’t know who they are. Im just trying to help some of you understand why people are so negative.

I agree with you, but it is often not the best lawyer who wins. It is the lawyer with the right connections who wins.

We need to perhaps consider changing our judicial system to something like Singapore has…guilty until proven innocent. We are in some kind of desperate state in Bermuda and our only hope is to crack down on these alleged drug smugglers! Guilty until they can prove their innocence!

  2. Judgement says:

Not to defend anyone but before you gossip wh#res start. Suspicion of smuggling, and arrested still innocent until proven guilty. If/When found guilty, then so on………

  3. Truth is killin' me... says:

Gossip whores…ha…how about all those drug wh#res you have walking the streets. Men and women included and some of them have jobs and function like you wouldn’t even know it!!

    • I AGREE says:

Sad, very sad but true and yes men actually sell themselves for drugs. In reasoning with… Ask them why it’s so hard? Seriously get to understand what their life involves and what goes on.
It is eye opening, sad, scary, shocking, and disgusting!!!
Im just saying educate yourself, thats all for your own sake. I have learned a lot.

Shooting up has made a come back with the very young. You would never know until you see for yourself. These guys want help so bad. It doesn’t hurt to listen and give advice.
Bermuda has to come better than wait listing. ITS A BIG STEP WHEN SENT TO GET HELP TO END UP ON A WAIT LIST!!!!

      • Swing Voter says:

Guys selling themselves? In Bermuda? Gosh, I’ve led such a sheltered life.

  4. Mad Dawg says:

Amazes me how people love to jump to the defence of accused rapists (earlier today) and drug smugglers.

Yeah, I know they’re poor innocents angels until proven otherwise. If you can convince a Bermudian jury of course.
