Upcoming: 2012 Bermuda Dog Shows

July 10, 2012

The Bermuda Kennel Club will be hosting the 2012 Bermuda Dog Shows offering Conformations Shows, Obedience and Rally Obedience. The shows will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 20th & 21st, 2012 at Somersfield Academy, Devonshire.

Conformation shows, also referred to as breed shows, are where each purebred dog is judged against the ideal breed type for their breed, as described in its breed standard, like you see at the Westminster Dog Show, Crufts and the AKC/Eukanuba Championships on TV.

The 2012 Conformation Shows will be qualifiers for CRUFTS 2013. This is the second time the Bermuda Dog Shows have been nominated as such.

The qualifying dogs, from each of the four shows, will be the winners of the following classes:

  • All Group Winners
  • Best Puppy in Show and
  • Best Veteran in Show

Conformation entries close on Saturday September 22nd, 2012 and for more information, contact Carole Havercroft at carole@adworks.bm.

Under the auspices of the Dog Training Club of Bermuda (DTC) Four Licensed Obedience Trials will be held. Obedience is a performance dog sport in which dog/ handler teams are judged on their ability to perform a series of exercises, increasing in difficulty from Novice to Utility classes. Dogs must start in the Novice class and win three qualifying scores at each level before moving up to the next class.

Obedience entries close in Bermuda on Monday October 8th, 2012 and for more information, contact Cathy Gosling at cgosling@clickonbermuda.com.

Under the auspices of IDEA – Rally Bermuda, Rally Obedience Trials will be held. Rally is the dog sport that is a successful stepping stone from the Canine Good Citizen programme to obedience or agility.

Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition. Bermuda Rally runs under similar rules to Canadian Rally Obedience (CARO).

Rally Entries close in Bermuda on Monday October 15th, 2012 and for more information, contact Philippa Mello at philippamello@me.com.

These shows welcome dogs, handlers and owners, from Canada and the United States to compete with their Bermuda counterparts. Official Judges will also be coming from the U.S. & Canada.

Offering a full weekend of dog events, admission to spectators is free. For more information, visit the show website.
