Massive Crowd Thrilled By Collie Buddz Show
As of 10.30pm this evening [Aug 1] a long line was visible on Front Street, with scores of people queuing to get into the Collie Buddz show at Barrs Bay Park. The line stretched back almost as far as the bank and was orderly and moving along efficiently, with everyone appearing to be in good spirits as the Cup Match holiday gets underway.
Bermudian reggae star Collie Buddz — real name Colin Harper — and the New Kingston Band are performing live together for the first time in Bermuda. The grounds are packed and crowds are enjoying an early warm-up by Vibe 103 DJs Smokey, Chubb, Keem and Rusty G.
The Bermuda Department of Tourism joined with the reggae artist to offer two free tickets to the concert. Fans were invited to take a picture to show why they are the biggest Collie Buddz fan and send it in. The prize included round trip airfare to Bermuda for two, 7 days and six nights at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel and special VIP tickets to the show.
Locals made their way to the show tonight by both land and sea, with numerous boats having pulled up alongside Barrs Park to join in the festivities. The view from the road has been blocked with covers placed across the full span of the wall along Front Street, however many people are sitting across the street enjoying the music.
Collie Buddz’ self entitled album was released in 2007, and his music was well received internationally, with his videos being steadily featured on international radio and television stations including BET. Collie’s debut single ‘Come Around’ was ranked #1 on the BBC Radio’s UK dancehall chart.
His music career lead him to tour dozens of nations worldwide including: Austria, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Britain, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dubai, England, Germany, Guam, Guyana, Italy, Jamaica, Finland, France, Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, St. Croix, Tortola, Trinidad, Qatar, USA and the Pacific nation of Vanuatu.

Update 7am: The show opened with the New Kingston Band doing an opening set, and then the crowd erupted as Collie Buddz took the stage. He performed all his hit songs, and his set included appearances by local artists C’daynger and Roachkilla who were also both major crowd pleasers.
They finished their set and then returned for an encore which included some old school reggae covers and a special appearance by Jamaican dancehall artist Wayne Marshall who performed songs including “Good Love.”
Marshall thrilled those in attendance not only with his music but by telling the massive crowd that he considers Bermuda’s Collie Buddz to be one of “the baddest reggae artists in the world right now.”

Yeah I grew up listening to all the artist of the Rockers era myself along with blue beat and ska Skatalites, Byron Lee & the Dragonaires long before they were staple names in reggae.
For the record Colin Harper is a bona fide reggae artist and I rate his material as high as any artist in his genre He is highly respected in the industry and many of his contemporaries have worked with him. Did you not know he knocked Beanie Man off the top spot with his first single? I believe it was “Come Around”. Thats the king of dancehall some mean feat worthy of recognition.
The fact hes some white boy from Bermuda means nothing music transcends race and colour that is evidenced by the make up of his fan base and touring itinerary. I guess some will never let go of their ignorant backward thinking.

thanks for the history lesson. my point is this, Dance Hall is not reggae. It doesn’t matter who’s blabblin about illegal behaviour or ranting about the evils of homosexuals on the mic. Next to weed, Dance Hall has got to be JAs worst export

Well I agree one hundred percent with that point, clearly you are a purist like myself but sadly dancehall is an accepted form of reggae one that I and the world could likely do with out due to the anti social nature of most of it.
Whether its promoting gun play, homophobia, encouraging depraved sexual behaviour or denigrating women its along way from the DJs who started this genre of music U Roy, I Roy, Dillinger, Toyan, Ranking Trevor, General Ech & Madoo, Loui Lepke, Yellowman, Brigidier Jerry, Super Cat etc I dont listen to it or promote it.

This was a sensational show top to bottom. If you weren’t there, don’t comment. Your personal feelings don’t much interest me if you didn’t witness this performance. I was there and can attest to the artistry of the performers and the good vibe. So glad I didn’t miss de show!
