Miami Flights Cancelled For Tomorrow

August 25, 2012

According to the flight data on American Airlines website, the Miami flights for tomorrow [Aug 26] have been cancelled. AA flight #1325 leaving for Miami at 08:15am, and AA flight #308 from Miami due to arrive from Miami at 8:05pm are both showing as cancelled.

The cancellations are due to Tropical Storm Issac, which is heading towards Florida. Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency, and Florida officials have urged vacationers to leave the Florida Keys, where a hurricane warning was in effect, as well as for the west coast of Florida from Bonita Beach south to Ocean Reef and for Florida Bay.

Florida’s Key West International Airport and Marathon Airport are closed until further notice, and American Airlines has cancelled a number of flights to/from Miami International Airport for locations including St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Croix, St. Maarten, Punta Cana and Santa Domingo.

Isaac has already made its way though the Caribbean, with Reuters reporting that “Tropical Storm Isaac battered eastern Cuba on Saturday on its way toward the Florida Keys after its torrential rains and gusty winds left six dead in Haiti, which is still recovering from a devastating 2010 earthquake.”

“A 10-year-old girl was killed near Port-au-Prince when a wall fell on her and a woman in the southern coastal city of Jacmel was crushed to death when a tree fell on her house, government officials said.”

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said that Isaac is expected to strengthen, and will be at or near hurricane strength when it reaches the Florida Keys. The Bermuda Weather Service has said Isaac is not a threat to Bermuda.
