Video Preview: TROIKA’s “Once On This Island’
TROIKA’s latest production ”Once On This Island” started last night [Aug 23], earning rave reviews from people in attendance. The show is directed by Steve Huntsman [Las Vegas], choreographed by Eric Bean Jr, the assistant choreographer is Kioshi Burgess, and the vocal/choral producer is Edith Caines.
The show started last night at the Ruth Seaton James Centre Auditorium, and continues this evening and tomorrow. Showtime is at 8pm. ”Excellent entertainment for both the eyes and the ears,” said one attendee last night, while another told Bernews: “I was so impressed, they were so professional.”
This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.
In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of Ti Moune, a black peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island.
When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

This was an excellent show. My son sent me a bb asking if I wanted to go. It ended up being 4 (my son, husband,mom) of us in total that attended last night and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very professional and the props were AWESOME. As soon as you walked in you were put in the mood. The cast defintely did their homework. We have amazing talent in Bermuda and this is a show not to be missed. I felt like I was at a broadway production. Great job team.

Troika is the bomb!
This show was awesome! Bermuda’s young people have talent. I felt like I was at a broadway show. The effects, the sound, the moving stage set and everything about this production was on point! Troika has done a wonderful job.

Wow! Excellent theatrical performance! Ok, can we have these talented artists showcase this for our Tourism hotel productions, Harbour Nights etc, this talent can’t just vanish after 3 days! Can they be ongoing?!….
Mesmirised and awed! I too felt like i was at a broadway play. Props to all who participated. They were all excellent! Bermuda’s Got Talent. Lets use our own instead of bringing others all the time. This performance deserves to be a part of the Bermuda Festival performers. Awesome!
