Premier Praises Politicians For Taking Pay Cut

September 4, 2012

Speaking at yesterday’s [Sept 4] Labour Day celebrations, Premier Paula Cox thanked Ministers and MPs of “all political stripes” for taking a pay cut which she called “leading by example.”

After thanking the workers, Premier Cox said: “I also want the Ministers of Government, Members of Parliament, across the board of all political stripes. Thanking for them taking a pay cut and leading by example.”

A statement issued by Government today [Sept 9] referenced a media report from another outlet stating that Premier Paula Cox praised civil servants for taking a 5% pay cut.

A spokesperson  issued a clarification to say that “Premier Cox did not praise civil servants, she specifically praised Ministers, MPs and Senators for leading by example in taking a pay cut.”

    • Family Man says:

No, their take-home pay goes up and their pension payments are guaranteed by YOU whether they contribute or not.

      • Come Correct says:

We have been decieved yet again…smh we won’t learn.

  2. Triangle Drifter says:

Oh Whoop Dee Doo! the civil servants take a token paycut, after years of above inflation rate pay raises.

How many have seen their wages static for the past 5 years but they are happy to still have a job? How may are working much shorter hours? How many have been laid off? How many have seen their place of employment disappear? How many businesses have seen their income drop, 10,15,25,50%?

5% paycut!!!! Give us a break!!

  3. Concerned says:

So how are these savings going to be spent – school programs – Free after school programs, breakfast/lunch assistance, uniform assistance????

  4. M.P.Mountbatten JP says:

That’s a lie . Interest alone on monies already made more than compensates for the “charitable gesture “.

  5. Opressed says:

She needs to pass out vomit bags wherever she speaks.

  6. Razor says:

Why is there a 1982 Labor Day banner? Trying to save money by not getting a new one or was it a 30 year anniversary or something? And what kind of outfit is that Paula?

  7. Liars! says:

sounded vile if you ask this white bredren

  8. Cedar Beams (Original) says:

You anti PLP (mostly white) bloggers should take a break. Ain’t fair disagreeing wiff PLP. Its racisss.

    • Mad Dawg says:

And if you stopped we’d automatically get another tourist.

  9. street wise says:

The fact is that these people have not sacrificed a thing.

It is true that MPs took a 5% pay reduction on an already highly inflated salary that none would be able to make in the real world of business. Whoop-de-do to that! But these same people were allowed to postpone, or eliminate, their pension payments for a year… so the net effect was, in reality, an INCREASE in salary!! An increase in pay – not a 5% reduction or a “saving” for the taxpayer. And you, the voters, are paying for it. That’s how our Premier spins the truth to you, the voters. If you want more of this… more spin, more dishonesty, more bull sh!t, more incompetence, more graft, more arrogance, then be my guest, vote PLP. If you want more devisive racist talk, more Dr Evil, more Derrick Burgess, more David Birch, who have been silenced of recent (for good reason!), then be my guest, please vote PLP….

  10. Future says:

Surely she is not still spinning a pay increase as a pay cut? And the bloggers are falling for this? Pay was NOT cut. Contributions to a pension was so that take home pay goes UP! They are leading by example…a terrible example.

  11. say it like it is. says:

So funny, after ripping us all off for years, right before the election is called, she and her colleagues take a pay cut! HA. I don’t bel;ieve it either. Paula Cox and her PLP people need to step aside and let a real political party take over. They;ve had their turn, time to kick them out for good.

  12. swing voter says:

some people won’t be satified or won’t realize it until its too late

  13. Joey-Bag-O'doughnuts says:

They are all heart. People are having their salaries reduced 100% and the government is ALL in with the people, they really do care for the citizens.

When these people are allowed to vote themselves pay raises, the country is doomed!

  14. Sara says:

Wasn’t this idea originally the OBA’s? You see why the OBA doesn’t make tell everyone their actions? The PLP steal their ideas and take credit for it as if none of us remember who first came up with taking a pay cut. They’re comical this PLP.
