Harrington Replaces Els In PGA Grand Slam

October 20, 2012

An ankle injury forced Ernie Els to withdraw today from the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Padraig Harrington will replace Els and join Masters Champion Bubba Watson, U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson and defending champion Keegan Bradley in Bermuda at Port Royal Golf Course, Oct. 23-24, 2012.

The two-time Open Champion (2007 & ’08) and 2008 PGA Champion, played in back-to-back Grand Slam’s in Bermuda in 2007 and ’08 and looks forward to returning. “I am thrilled to return to Bermuda to play in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf,” said Harrington.

“While my entry into the field is under unique circumstances, I am excited to compete in the event again. I came close the last two times I was there–losing in playoffs to Angel Cabrera in 2007 and Jim Furyk in 2008. So maybe the third time will be a charm.”

Els, who won the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in 1997 and 2010, recently injured his left ankle. “I am bitterly disappointed not to be able to make the PGA Grand Slam of Golf,” said Els. “It is a great reward for winning a major and something I have enjoyed in the past and was looking forward to again.

“Unfortunately I sprained my left ankle a few days ago and while it isn’t too serious and should recover relatively quickly, I have been advised not to try and play on it. I wish my fellow competitors the best and hope that I will manage to qualify again next year.”

Harrington accepted the invitation to compete in the 2012 PGA Grand Slam of Golf after second and third alternates, Graeme McDowell and Tiger Woods, were unavailable.

Tiger Woods really doesn’t want to come here does he… I wonder why? Maybe Zane knows.

    • Ask Milkman says:

More like Michael Dunkley knows why Tiger does not want to come here. Ask the Mid Oceaner. He decries Bermuda Government, but isn’t he and Jeanne Atherden the ones out there drinking and eating and getting in free and playing free at the PGA event. Remember the photo Michael went and took with Tiger, 3 years ago? Ask Dunkley he can share why Tiger isn’t playing. Talk about friends and family packages, its the golf OBA package. Poor Craig, he can’t play with the rich big boys, sad eh?

      • i gotta be me says:

Yes we know why Tiger and several other high profilers will not come to Bermuda and it’s not the Milkman you should be asking, it’s your pal Dr Evil.

        • Play for Play says:

Michael Dunkley knows – He’s mid ocean member and sits on the board out there. Dunkley is in the know. He’s the one playing with all the celebrities and blaming Ewart.

          • Come Correct says:

Yea the milk man threw parties at the playboy mansion on the BDT budget lol stfu.

          • Mad Dawg says:

Ewart tried for years to get Tiger to come here. __

  2. Vote for Me says:

Tiger Woods ‘not being available’ is unfortunate. I think we all know what would have happened to ticket sales if he was comming!!

  3. James s says:

It is fortunate for the local blonde women that TW is not coming.

    • james a says:

      Why?

    • Clio says:

I am blonde and would like to meet Tiger. $ hit on you all that still talk Tiger down. He’s the best golfer and will always be that’s all we need to know.

  4. Triangle Drifter says:

Tiger has an image to maintain. He did enough to destroy it on his own. He certainly does not need to tarnish it by associating himself with devious politians. His PR people would have done due diligence before giving a yes or no to playing in Bermuda.
