‘Just 10 Challenge’ For Ministry Of Health

October 30, 2012

Health Minister Zane De Silva challenged all staff members of the Ministry of Health to commit to leading a healthy lifestyle which, in some cases, means losing weight. One of the aims of the “Just 10 Challenge” is to highlight some of the benefits which can be derived from losing only 10 pounds.

“Losing just 10 pounds can lower your blood pressure, reduce your risk for a stroke, ward off dementia, lower your risk for uterine and breast cancer, and lower your cholesterol up to 10%,” said Minister De Silva at the staff weigh-in on Monday [Oct 29].

“There may be those who need to lose more than ten but ten is certainly a good place to start as it is a small goal which can yield positive results.

“Alternatively, you may not need to lose weight but this challenge will help to highlight some of the healthy lifestyle choices that you can make which will lead to a healthier, happier you.

“These include eating balanced and nutritious meals, exercising for 30 to 60 minutes a day at least three times a week, getting seven to eight hours of sleep per night, or finding healthy ways to manage stress.”

The Just 10 Challenge will run from October 29th to the final weigh-in on December 7th 2012.
