Upcoming Talk On Breast Cancer/Health

October 18, 2012

Members of the public are invited to attend an important talk on breast health, sponsored by Bermuda CableVision, and organised by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. Admission is free.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, October 25, at 6.30pm in the Auditorium at Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Doors will open at 5:00pm to give attendees the opportunity to talk informally with health care providers and browse tables presenting health screening information. Light refreshments will be served prior to the presentation.

The event will feature guest speakers Dr. David Green, Consultant Breast Radiologist at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, and Dr. Jane Brock, expert Breast Pathologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston, U.S.A. They will discuss the latest advances in breast screening, breast tumour types, the importance of early detection, and will answer questions on the topic of breast health.

Dr. David Green [pictured] is the Clinical Director and Breast Specialist at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. Under Dr. Green’s leadership the Centre has implemented a comprehensive breast cancer detection program inclusive of digital mammography, breast ultrasound, breast biopsies and an audit and peer review program in keeping with international best practice for radiology.

A fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in the U.K. and a member of the British Society of Breast Radiology, Dr. Green brings more than 23 years of breast specialist experience to Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre – with extensive expertise in the interpretation and reporting of screening and diagnostic breast exams and in performing breast biopsies.

Dr. Green is available at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to meet with patients and, for those patients who may require additional breast assessment, results are immediate for both the patient and their doctors, which is enabling Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to achieve their vision of providing a “Specialist Approach to Patient Care.”

Dr. Jane E. Brock covers both general surgical pathology and a high-volume subspecialty breast pathology service including institutional consults for DFCI. She evaluates pathology for breast cancer clinical trials running at the Dana Faber Breast Cancer Center, and has focused her academic research on pathologic prognostic factors in breast cancer. She is also the Medical Director of the BWH Surgical Pathology Grossing Room and supervises the training of residents and fellows in surgical pathology at BWH.

Bermuda CableVision General Manager, Terry Roberson, explains why the company is sponsoring this event for the third consecutive year: “Breast cancer is a serious health concern that has touched far too many lives. We are proud to support the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre in their ongoing efforts to inform the public and help save lives through early detection. We encourage everyone to attend and meet these esteemed doctors.”
