BDOT To Receive Gold & Silver HSMAI Awards

November 16, 2012

The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) will recognise the Bermuda Department of Tourism (BDOT) with a Gold and a Silver Award for public relations excellence for entries in the 56th annual Adrian Awards, the largest and most prestigious global travel marketing competition.

The awards will officially be presented to BDOT on Jan. 28, 2013, during the annual HSMAI Adrian Awards Gala, a black-tie affair attended by more than 1,000 hospitality, travel and tourism marketing executives at the New York Marriott Marquis.

This year’s contest attracted 1,100 entries from around the world, judged by top executives from all sectors of the travel industry. Judges were asked to evaluate each entry based on its own merit and success in achieving objectives.

BDOT will be presented with an HSMAI Gold Adrian Award for securing a key presence in the June 4, 2012 episode of ABC’s hit reality television show “The Bachelorette,” which resulted in a plethora of top-tier media coverage for the island.

The Silver Award will be awarded for a feature story in the June/July 2012 issue of Garden & Gun Magazine, achieved as a result of hosting an editor of the publication on island. The nine page spread was an all-encompassing island profile, including vivid descriptions, history, tourist tips and profiles on local Bermudians.

“We are honoured to receive these awards, and pleased to know that our efforts to promote our lovely island are recognized such a prestigious organization,” said William Griffith, Director of Tourism. “These achievements demonstrate our commitment to raising awareness of so much more Bermuda has to offer travellers and positioning the island as an ideal vacation destination.”

Garden & Gun magazine! I would have kept quiet about that award. What other high profile mags are Tourism advertising in?

A friend of mine is an editor for Peaches & Posies magazine. I wonder if she can get a free trip to Bermuda if she writes a nice story for them?
