New Art Competition Offering $9,000 In Prizes

The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard has announced the first annual drawing and painting competition with $9,000 worth of prizes to be won. Unlike other art competitions on the island, the BACD competition focuses solely on the disciplines of drawing and painting. The competition is un-themed and entries will be accepted in a variety of media which will be listed on their website artbermuda.bm

Gallery administrator Heidi Cowen comments: “At the BACD we endeavor to support our local artists and believe they should be rewarded and recognized for their talent. This competition is a first and we are grateful to all our supporters. We anticipate this will be a popular annual event over the years to come and are excited to see what our talented community enter this year!’

All work will be juried by external judges. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • Best in Show: $5,000.00
  • People’s Choice: $1,500.00
  • 2nd Place: $700.00
  • 3rd Place: $500.00
  • 4th Place: $300.00
  • Honourable mentions: 5 x $200.00

Artists have five months to work on their submissions, which must be handed into the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard no later than 4pm, April 21st, 2013. Work must not have been exhibited previously. The opening night and awards ceremony will be on May 5th, 2013 and the show will run until May 31st, 2013.

    Art compitions like this should draw a couple of Artist from the USA,Canada,the west Indies and the UK.- because of the prize money.
    at the same time money should be made from the entry fee if your got the right numbers.
    with $9000 prize money total and money being tight a lot of people are going to give it a shot.
    I just hope the stationary shop brings in the cavases,paints and cuts down on the prices.- so people can afford them.
