“26 marijuana plants were seized by the police.”

Really? What did the plants do?

  2. Come Correct says:

They were allegedly growing plants?! How evil!

  3. Say Say Say says:

Can’t believe this is still illegal.

  4. M.P.Mountbatten JP says:

Is it illegal to grow poppies ?

    • Tommy Chong says:

But its not illegal to grow morning glories, nutmeg, angels trumpet, wheat, hops, hawaiin woodrose & san pedro cactus. What funny laws we have here.

  5. rastamon says:

legalize de herb. its just plants reaaly.

  6. Dante's Inferno says:

Stupid teens, always smoking pot. When they grow up they will understand how dangerous pot really is.

    • haha says:

actually the “damage” weed supposedly does is so insignificant it is disregarded…

      • someone says:

Well recent scientific research suggests that Marijuana actually has damaging effects on a teenagers brain, as it is still developing. However, once your brain is developed around 18+ for the most part Marijuana is relatively safe to consume.

    • WelliNever says:

Actually the damage pharmaceutical drugs and illegal drugs and alcohol do more damage. So much attention is put on Weed when the drug companies are doing what they call a soft kill on the population. Plus the chemicals that are put in the food we eat everyday is also part of soft kill. Think about it.

  7. agood job says:

Good job Police. Best way to prevent more stonned brain dead dumbarses from running around.

    • haha says:

awkward when you call someone a dumbass and cant spell stoned???

      • someone says:

And the fact I’ve never seen a stoned person run shows this guy is clueless :p

    • BDAboy says:

It’s a good thing the police have rid the island of these 26 plants, more room for guns now.

  8. uh... says:

Oh please….its just a plant… now we have to waste thousands of tax payers dollars on prosecuting these horticulturists.

    OBA…Make a CHANGE please.

    • hmm says:

Make a change for what? More people smoking their brains out and acting ignorant. It amazes me about weed smokers, when real topics are at hand we hear nothing from you ,but when it is time to talk about getting high you get all political and try to act like you know what you are talking about. Do you know how many people have found their way to the mental institutions in Bermuda from smoking weed?
No you prob dont know, just keep getting high and stay in your own little world and let real adults deal with real problems.

      • Dope- E says:

As a former weeed head I too am amazed at how many of the weed smokers around me just don’t see the damages to their own selves that weed has done.
They all claim it is harmless, they all claim alcohol is worse (and it probably is) but at least recognize the fact that you are getting dumber by the day when you smoke weed.

I agree with the decrimilization of small amounts of weed – but NOT legalizing it.

        • Pastor Syl says:

Thank you,Dope-E. Along with the damage done to motivation and initiative, people really need to be aware of the high incidence of marijuana-induced psychosis in Bermuda. We see people wandering the streets, talking to themselves but don’t realize the connection. MAWI would be doing the community a major service to present an educational paper, or better yet, a workshop or seminar on this topic.

          • 21 Questions says:

Actually more recent studies of the drug show that it doesn’t damage brain tissue, but recent studies show that people who use it long term face psychological affects such as Multi-Personality Disorder and Bi-polar. So in essence its only bad for long term users

            • Amsterdamned says:

I believe that the problem with these studies that claim a link, is that there is no neutral baseline to compare to.

People who have predispositions to mental disorders are more likely to self medicate then the average person. By linking the % of disorder to the usage rate it means the outcomes are biased.

The facts are that we have a large number of people who remain undiagnosed with whatever ills them. They are likely to self medicate, maybe with alcohol, maybe with weed, maybe something else…. to blame the symptoms on a plant is rather pathetic. There is no scientific evidence to support the theory that cannabis use has any causative effects on mental health.

It has been a therapy and medicine for thousands of years. The issue is that the major drug companies cant make money off of a plant they cant patent. That is the only reason it is illegal. There have been ZERO recorded deaths attributed to cannabis in recorded history. That is better then any drug made today

          • Will says:

That’s not weed you ass..that’s heroin and crack and alcohol

            • 21 Questions says:

hey its scientifically proven weed does cause people to change and if you can’t admit that you’re naive.

              • Will says:

yes but there is no research to prove that you become violently psychotic and a lot of people to which he refers have those symptoms. Alcoholism runs in my family and let me tell you , that changes people for the worst. So does crack and a lesser extent heroin..and thats scientifically proven.

                • 21 Questions says:

where did i say violently psychotic, it causes multi personality disorder read before you write geeshums

                  • Will says:

no it was in response to Pastor Syl..who first brought up the brain dead sychotics we have running around

                  • Will says:

also there is now research that shows Cannabis can help or prevent multi personality…People gotta remember thc which we get stoned from isn’t the only chemical in cannabis. CBD and a host of other ones actually work to counteract the effect of THC..which is why if you smoke weed you dont feel horrid after, but if you try synthetic THC which is pure THC that shite mucks you up in a bad way

              • Amsterdamned says:

yeah, they change into becoming more mellow relaxed people who are better rounded then most of the uptight losers on the pharmacology of today.

          • Chuck Norris says:

The word psychosis may be a bit harsh to attach to marijuana but it does have an impact on the mind when you are high. Drugs alter the mind and this is the same with alcohol which most certainly changes the mood and behavior of a person. Ironically when high, a person can meditate and see things from a different perspective as senses are heightened. To say marijuana makes people dumb is wrong. There are a lot of users that only use a low to moderate amount and can enjoy the plant. But I believe from your write up that you are referring to the ones they may abuse the drug and have a marijuana cigarette 6 times a day. But then too much of anything is bad for a person. Let’s keep in mind some user who abuse the drug their tolerance also increases so they need more potent marijuana to get the same euphoria.

            • Will says:

the strength theory is also wrong. Currently living in the UK where all you get is Skunk cannabis. The great thing about it is you dont need as much to reach the desired effect. Secondly when i come back to Bermuda and smoke the herb there, which is crap compared to Skunk i get blazed, im thinking it might have to do with environment hot vs cold, more humidity etc and how that effects the body.

      • BDAboy says:

” Do you know how many people have found their way to the mental institutions in Bermuda from smoking weed?”

Question is, how did you get out?

Why not educate yourself on the effects of marijuana, instead of parroting US style anti drug propaganda?

    • TRUTHBETOLD says:

@uh you are living in LA LA Land OBA is going to CHANGE it str8 BACK to prosecution instead of decriminalization Makai Dickerson is Public Example #1 !!

  9. Confused says:

Hopefully, these reports will soon become a thing of the past and will be replaced by stories of increased economic prosperity! Soon come

    • Chuck Norris says:

I see nothing wrong with cultivating marijuana for personal use.

  10. bb54 says:

this is ridiculous 36 plants and you call that the news.Leave people alone. You have no business in there.

  11. CC says:

And the world is concerned about extinction…STOP hurting God’s creations, it’s in the Holy Bible; governments are stigmatising ‘mother nature’!

    • Will says:

im not religious at all and believe in nothing from the bible..but it does sound a bit unnatural that we have made nature illegal

  12. Come Correct says:

@ Mountbatton, from what I hear and I’m not positive but apparently you can buy salvia and peyote at plant nurseries. Either way both are hallucinagenic and legal. To answer your question, no. Want to go chase a dragon with me since its legal?

@ agood job, that’s sarcasm right? If not…well nevermind, there’s no changing a mentality like that. Hope nobody in you family SUFFERS from cancer, its not pretty watching loved one DIE while the medication remains illegal for no reason other than greed.

@ confused, um…not until our government decides to take its thumb out of its bum, lead and not follow, legalize it and tax it. Not like over 50% of this island uses it or anything…even some arresting you for it.

I used to be against legalization but decriminalization will only help to fuel the gangs. Legalization, government dispenceries, and certain stipulations (e.g. No smoking in public) will take a bite out of gang profits and put it into our economy. THE PLANT HURTS NOBODY. Even if you don’t legalize it, people will still use it, so the government loses on profit to be made.

    • Chuck Norris says:

Government will always lose on taxing the plant. You do know that people can grow it themselves right?? I’m sure you read the article that your posting on..

      • Come Correct says:

        “and certain stipulations”

I didn’t mean just that one example, maximum of 3-5 plants for personal growth possibly. Still if you used, would you wait 5 momths or go buy some from a government dispencery? If its going to be considered it needs to be thought out in depth because human nature basically dictates that people will abuse the freedom. Either way its money the government isnt making now…or is it? Bottom line is, a plant shouldn’t make people criminals.

        • Will says:

dang i’m all for letting us grow our own, but was thinking along the lines of at least 2 plants per household. And yes, totally agree that with it being illegal the real losers are the governmnet who are losing countless dollars. And in what logical sense does a government deem a drug dangerous but then make it illegal? That makes no sense because of course it falls into the black market of zero regulations and high risks associated with such.

      • BDAboy says:

Just look at all the people growing their own tobacco and distilling their own alcohol…to avoid paying taxes ;)

    • Will says:

You cant buy peyote in plant nurseries in Bermuda..its a banned substance..as for salvia there are hundred of varieties. Sage is salvia..but Salvia Divinorum im pretty sure cannot be found on the island’s plant nurseries (thats the one in which you trip)
PS. Has anyone tried salvia. I have and for some reason in my trips i always peacefully arrive in Bermuda on a sunny day and look out over the trees into the water..its beautifully fascinating :)

      • Will says:

and im in the wet miserable UK…lemme tell you, those psychedelic trips back to Bermy make up for the fact

  13. Just Us says:

It amazes me how man will allow their handmade man-made drugs be legal but will prosecute a person for handling the cannabis Sativa plant made by God. This is a plant that was used before the Christian era in China, India, Tibet, Assyria and always been used as medicine.
It’s ok to buy their legal aspirin products at the red cross pharmaceutical outlets to make their investors rich and on the other side their other friend run the D.E.A. and all other arm force businesses to ensure they continue to stay rich, while keeping the common man poor to only work to buy their BS products… Why is that? How can so many people be brainwashed to believe that this is perfectly ok for governments to eradicate a plant made by God for the healing of men… Now it is said that the D.E.A. is trying to patient the same active ingredient that’s so important to the world that uses the cannabis plant for its therapeutic uses called (THC) tetrahydrocannabinol also known as delta-9. I personally believe the plant has been misrepresented, as most people think its only for smoking. This is a beautiful herb to cook with by all means… Do your research…

  16. Malcolm Kyle says:

Prohibitionists literally don’t give a damn about the welfare of individual citizens. That’s you, me, and everyone you care about. They don’t even care when their failed policy puts their own families in danger by destroying the economy and bank-rolling criminals and terrorists. The prohibitionist onslaught appears to be simply a war directed at all of us.

America, it is time to wake up! Prohibition is a cultural and economic assault on your money, on your careers, on your ability to put food on the table, have shelter, cloth yourself, and even survive or self-medicate. The fiscal cliff isn’t the crisis—Prohibitionist control over America’s politics and government is!

During alcohol prohibition, all profits went to enrich criminals and corrupt politicians. Young men died every day on inner-city streets while battling over turf. A fortune was wasted on enforcement that could have gone on education, etc. On top of the budget-busting prosecution and incarceration costs, billions in taxes were lost. Finally, the economy collapsed. Sound familiar?

Prohibitionists, and their criminal friends who live in a crack-house called Congress, are having a ball and it’s all on our tab.

  17. Smh says:

LEGAL? Tobacco = 5 million deaths a year. ALCOHOL = 2.5 million deaths a year!!! ILLEGAL? Marijuana NO deaths EVER recorded, & Known Medicinal Qualities!!! Just a lil food for thought ALL FACTS

  18. not_really_bermudian says:

The police make it harder for themselves if there is less weed that means people will drink more that means more violence. The more arrests made for weed are just packing up the prisons. The laws in Amsterdam have allowed them to have the lowest crime in the world…we need to wake up an pay attention to reality there are no links at all to weed an metal health if it was there wouldn’t be medical marijuana

  19. Will says:

another family’s Christmas and lives ruined by failed and archaic laws.
Proper regulations and control of drugs is the only way to go about this. Prohibition doesn’t work. And it amazes me that the majority of those toting the greatness of prohibition tend to be uber christians who seem to forget that according to their faith the first prohibition was an apple tree…look how that went. IT NEVER WORKS AND NEVER WILL.

the way I see it the couple was allegedly keeping themselves out of the drug trade. They were harming nobody and keeping their hard earned money out of the hands of criminals. By not paying into the drug smuggling and drug dealing business, they can keep from associating with people who may rob them cheat them sell them inferior product….. instead waste more taxpayers money on this couple and forget the murderers, and actual criminals and the pathetic behavior exhibited on our streets

    pathetic
