Nahki Wells & Bradford City Reinstated In FA Cup

December 12, 2012

Nahki Wells and Bradford City have even more reason to celebrate after being reinstated into the FA Cup after successfully appealing against a decision to expel them for fielding an ineligible player.

The news comes after Bradford defeated Premier League Arsenal on penalties yesterday [Dec 11], with 22-year-old Bermudian striker Nahki Wells playing a key part in the match.

Bradford were expelled from this season’s FA Cup after fielding on-loan Newcastle United defender Curtis Good in their game againstwith Brentford before they registered him.

A statement from Bradford City said: “Bradford City FC can confirm that today (Wednesday 12 December 2012) Director of Operations David Baldwin attended an appeal hearing with Ben Jones, Partner at Petherbridge Bassra solicitors and Mr Simon Csoka QC of Carmelite Chambers.

“The appeal was heard before The FA Appeal Committee at Wembley Stadium in relation to the matter of the club’s expulsion from this season’s FA Cup with Budweiser competition.

“We can confirm that on appeal the club has now been reinstated back into the F.A Cup competition and has been fined for its actions. We deeply regret our breach of the rules and are currently reviewing our procedures to ensure no repeat of this situation.

“Therefore the original replay of the club’s F.A Cup Second Round tie with Brentford, scheduled for Tuesday 18 December 2012, will now take place as planned at the Bees’ Griffin Park stadium.

“The club would like to go on record and express gratitude to our legal partners who represented us before the tribunal. The club also wishes to extend its gratitude to The FA Appeals Committee for dealing with this matter expeditiously, justly and mercifully.”
