OBA Signs Defaced, PLP Condemns Vandalism

December 17, 2012

At least three One Bermuda Alliance banners have been defaced across the island, with the candidates face sprayed over and the words ‘PLP’ added to the banner.

The OBA called it “appalling behaviour,” while the PLP said they “strongly condemn vandalism in the strongest terms.”

“We call upon all victims to immediately report vandalism to the police and we ask the police to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice,” said a statement issued by the PLP.

Absolutely disgusting behavior. Ive seen some childish behaior with the signs from supportrs on both side. But this is too much. But then again what can we expect with the examples they have been given.

  2. I still love y'all says:

“they can’t keep a good man/woman down, always keep a smile when they want me to frown” keep ur heads up guys, u have my support all the way!!!

  3. Childish says:

I was one of the undecided, but thanks to this type of behaviour it made it easier to choose. I find this type of behaviour childish. Thank you to whomever sprayed the poster. You just helped me NOT vote for them.

    • No to PLP says:

I agree. I am 21 years old and was an undecided first time voter also. But these are some of the reasons I voted OBA this morning:

-In my opinion I think the PLP spent more than enough time bashing the other party through television ads, print brochoures, radio etc. They didn’t spend enough time addressing the issues so I’m not familiar enough with them to know.

-The basically harrassing phone calls from MIAMI (305) on behalf of the PLP were annoying. The same number called over and over and when we answered no one said anything until the last time where they explained what the PLP has done and asked if they can count on our vote.

-The PLP candidate for my constituancy has only come once in years and when he did, we were away. My eldery grandmother who is a registered voter was home at the time and her caregiver answered the door and explained that the owner of the house was not there and that only my grandmother who is basically confined to bed was. Instead of speaking with my grandmother, plp candidate said “well I guess she won’t be voting.” And he left!

-PLP always brings up race which is irrelevant and a turn off in itself. This is 2012. With the number of interracial relationships and interracial children being born these days, the “race of the party” should not even matter. I’m black and I strongly believe that black people having seperate everything (BET. Historically black colleges, essence/ebony magazine etc) is a BIG reason why racism still exists. How can we as a country move on from racism if our leaders are still stuck on it?

-And of course the vandalism of the signs like above. It makes you wonder what type of people the PLP has supporting them. And honestly, I really don’t want to be grouped with a bunch of people (PLP supporters) that act like that.

There are many more reasons but those were the main ones why I chose OBA.

        Well said.

Perhaps one day we’ll have a world class eduction system and a Government whose moral compass provides a shining paradigm of morality & exemplary ethics together with respect for both their position and the electorate they serve.

Sadly 14 years of PLP rule and indoctrination have rendered a portion of the voting population with the civility and honour of a disgruntled child whose had their toys taken away for bad behaviour.

PLP – Betraying Bermudians since 1998; one undereducated voter at a time.

hear hear – i loved your reasons, and i think you write very well. thanks for taking the time to put your thoughts down. hopefully many people your age share your viewpoint. here’s to all of us TOGETHER putting this glorious island back together….

merry christmas to you and yours.

      • Mad Dawg says:

A sensible and well- written post. Let’s hope for the best results today.

      • Hope says:

Well said darling. My children saw the spray painted banners this morning and at their young age realised and commented on the disrespect. Hopefully better role models are on the horizon. Good for you that you have voiced your opinion in such an intellegent fashion based on facts and experience.

      • Free says:

I agreed with everything you said until you got to BET and black colleges and whatnot. Most of that was created because mainstream white media and such didn’t recognize blacks. It was a reaction and response not an elective thing blacks just randomly chose to do.

  4. Man in the Mirror says:

Here we go again, just like the spray painting on the Golf Course.
Hmmm and its not even PLP green or as you people would say koolaid green.

Next time get ya OBA’s to at least purchase the right color

    • Let me get this str8 says:

Typical PLP supporter. Never accept responsibility for anything while blaming everyone else.

      • Mother says:

Im not a strong supporter of either party if people vote right and we would have a split government with some independants getting in in some places… Cause OBA and PLP has cannidates that I would not trust to run a household let alone a country!!!

All of u jus going on assumations IT IS PLAIN WRONG YES!!!!! but it does not mean PLP did it or a supporter of the PLP it could be the OBA using this as another way to get votes they may not get!

  5. hmmm says:

    grow up people!

  6. Oh Please says:

It goes to show the mentality of some PLP supporters CHILDISH.

  7. Opressed says:

I’m sure it was “immoral, but not illegal” to do.

    • Hey says:

They are on private property, therefore they are commiting a crime damaging someones property. It is illegal. Why is this so hard to understand.

    • Micro says:

Well I guess I’m going to come over and paint your car then… pretty certain that won’t be illegal either.

  8. SoFar Bye says:

Just a bunch of ignant and stoopid PLP supporters, their iq must be -100.

  9. Plato says:

This could be a oba supporter posing as a plp supporter in order to make the plp look bad.

    • Pastor Syl Hayward says:

@ Plato: Why would we bother. You all do such an excellent job with no help from the OBA

  10. Honestly says:

The dang OBA probably defaced the signs themselves to make you think the PLP was responsible. Don’t be surprised!!!

  11. Pastor Syl Hayward says:

@ Honestly: Still trying to point fingers and not take responsibility. So childish.

  12. GOD 1st says:

Why Did the PLP set up sound system on court street and start pre party celebrating?

  13. GOD 1st says:

is it true about Glenn smith
