Historical Video: Bermuda Vacation In 1959
A one hour long video showing a Bermuda vacation in 1959 has appeared on YouTube, uploaded by ‘FlixVendor’. The video shows various parts of Bermuda as the island was 54 years ago, with shots of Front Street, St George’s, beaches, views of the island from the water, and much more.
The video description on YouTube says, “Join Jim and Kathleen Mac Donald for some fun in the sea sun! This original home movie shows the real world as it once was back in 1959. No scripted Hollywood movie can do that. Filmed in glorious 16mm Kodachrome color, voyage to the people and places of beautiful Bermuda.”

Excellent video! The hillsides were really barren. After the cedar blight & before the casaurinas & peppers took over.
I don’t know why we don’t have an Arbor Day here in Bermuda. Everyone should remove a pepper tree and plant a cedar tree.
An interesting video that is historically accurate; people of color were not seen. It is reminder of the social culture of Bermuda, prior to the Bermuda civil rights movement.
Did you watch it all? There are as many blacks as whites. I think you are looking too deeply, to me it just looks more innocent, days before guns, and all the nonsense we have today.
Yes, I watched the entire film. It seems as though we were watching different films as the people of color were hardly seen.
I think the person looking too deeply is you, as there is no mention of guns in my statement. As I stated before “this video is historically accurate…a reminder of the social culture of the day.” End of story!
Interesting to see how American tourists captured Bermuda on film as a souvenir the year I was born! Thanks for posting.
thanks for this wonderful history every one should see it .,lovely .
