OBA Respond To Marc Bean’s Use Of “Demonic”

February 18, 2013

One Bermuda Alliance Chairman Thad Hollis has responded to Opposition Leader Marc Bean, who called the OBA a “demonic” institution at yesterday’s Founders’ Day Luncheon & Drum Major Awards.

Mr Hollis said, “Bermuda today needs the best possible leadership. The Island is racked by some of the most serious challenges in our modern history – with thousands out of work, thousands earning less than before, a massive and growing debt burden and continuing gang violence that threatens the fabric of our society.

“Premier Cannonier and his Government have said the times call for the highest levels of cooperation amongst all sectors of the community if we are to see our way to better days. Pooling our talents, working together for the common good is the best way forward.

“Opposition Leader Marc Bean’s description of the One Bermuda Alliance as a “demonic” institution runs totally counter to this approach, and betrays a mindset that is deeply at odds with the decision Bermudians made in the December 17 election.

“We are prepared to cut Mr. Bean some slack given the pressures he was under last week, but urge him as new Leader of the Opposition to remember that words matter. They can be used to move the country forward, or they can be used to move the country nowhere at all.

“Let’s respect the voice of the people and work together to achieve social and economic equity for all. Let’s solve our collective challenges.

“In the meantime, the One Bermuda Alliance would like to extend congratulations to the Progressive Labour Party on its 50th anniversary. We agree that during those 50 years, the PLP played an important and positive role in creating the Bermuda of the 21st Century,” concluded Mr Hollis.

  1. Not Fooled says:

What the hell is this dude on about?

I agree, giving the kids of work permit holders the right to work without a permit is DEMONIC!

    • swing voter says:

Bean can’t change….because the PLP won’t change. Lister is brave to move on…several others should leave. Sunk the island in debt and still talking shyte….goodbye gang-green

      • open your eyes says:

Well Mr Bean, there was no one more demonic than our x-premier Paula Cox and Mr Brown. She had the personality of a she- devil herself. And her party has destroyed Bermuda more than any other party we have ever had running our country. Bermudians need to open their eyes. Our people are being destroyed from lack of knowledge. It’s not about race it’s about all our Bermudian people. And PLP clearly showed they were all about themselves. It is like them all of a sudden noticing about our school system. It was the same when PLP was in power, what they didn’t notice then? Now they want to bring it up after another party has replaced them! They complain about OBA doing nothing in these few months. Well sorry PLP you did nothing in all the years you had! So why don’t you work together instead of picking on these stupid little matters that you did nothing about yourselves.

        • Truth Seeker says:

Sorry but I simply cannot agree with this comment from “open your eyes’. It is wrong at every level to demonize someone from another political party whether it is Marc Bean using that dreadful word to describe the OBA (absolute shame on you Mr. Bean) or people like ‘open your eyes’ referring to Ewart Brown, or describing our ex-Premier Paula Brown as a “she-devil”.

This is inexcusable language and should not be tolerated. It is promoting a “gang” mentality – if you’re not in my gang then you have no value – and we all know where that leads to.

Shame on all of you who use this kind of hatemongering.

          • Rick Rock says:

Does that also apply to Marc Bean? Shame on him too? For some reason you left him out.

          • Please Leave Politics says:

            I agree! Great comment!

          • Y-Gurl says:

Open your eyes isnt wrong, and there are a few more names I could think of that may apper worser than she devil!

      • Eastern says:

He repeated his “demonic” comment on ZBM’s “let’s Talk” last night.

    • Concerned Citizen says:

Agreed! Speaking about words, what has the OBA said pre-election that they have done post-election….nothing! Thad hollis, if jobs and crime are important, why you hell bent on serving IB interest? Marc Bean is correct, these people are Demonic, so much so that many who voted for them are discusted with the way they are trying to govern! Expose them Bean, these people are wicked!

      • Argosy says:

You lost the election – get over it!

        • open your eyes says:

AMEN!!! PLP you behave like little school children. Get over it PLP you had your chance and did not do a dam thing for your country and people. No other party gave out work permits as much as you. Bermudians complained about foreign workers having all the jobs when you were in power. PLP gave so many work permits to 3rd world countries persons, they are like cockroaches, they are everywhere doing the simplest of jobs. Take a hike PLP, you had your chance and failed big time-get over it is well said!

          • Why the prejudice says:

Open your eyes… that is such an ignorant and unfair statement you made. There are a lot of educated people from third world countries who contribute to the well being of the Bermuda community. I work with some very bright persons from third world countries that know their work better than we do. Even if there are some expats doing simplest of jobs it`s still work that needs to be done by someone to drive the economy of Bermuda. Be careful Bermuda…. we might be up for some humbling experiences coming our way. We always think we are better than everybody else. It`s sad how much ignorance exists in this nation.

            • devil's Advocate A.K.A. Tommy Chong says:

This is true there are people from india, sri lanka, jamaica, azores, china, canada, UK, U.S.A., thailand, Japan & many other countries here that have helped Bermuda’s economy.

Then again the foreigners from the country that has the most permit holders in Bermuda over one thousand has done little to help our island. These ones need to have the majority of their permits revoked as they send more money back to their country then what they spend on island. These certain people don’t work any harder or faster than Bermudians but are quick to suggest their employers bring more of their friends & relatives in. Their countries major export is foreign workers & their economy runs on the money they take from other countries. I guarantee the amount of these workers who do hard labor is far & few unlike portuguese & jamaicans its highly unlikely you will see one of these people heavy lifting anything but a pair of tongs to make salad. They need to leave & give these jobs to Bermudians. The only ones I really see us needing from this nationality is the care givers & nannies but that even goes too far as I’ve seen two caring for one elderly person who can still walk & do things for themselves.

      • RawOnion says:

Some of you all are so daft….The OBA has only been in for a few weeks and are still going through the books and sorting things out but they are still making headway on certain policies. They want to serve the IB interests because THE ISLAND NEEDS FOREIGN INVESTMENT TO PAY ITS DEBT AND TO RUN!!!!!!! Once we get some more investment then the jobs will come and likely with it, less crime. Some of you are just so dumb.

        • open your eyes says:

Someone speaking that has some common sense. Thank you RawOnion!

        • dthtoo/ says:

          RawOnion,

If it were the PLP, you and the OBAers would be saying that they are not doing what they are supposed to do FAST ENOUGH. They were subject to you folks’ disrespect, impatience, ridicule and abuse for fourteen (14) years. Now we are cracking the wet whip on you.

          • Building a better Bermuda says:

Yes the PLP are quite proficient with a whip, they have been using it on their members, spporters and representatives for enough years to keep everyone in the line of party before country. I believe Mr. Bean felt its sting when he spoke out against the PLP performance in education, that maybe why he is only proposing such radical changes now, rather than when the PLP could have done something as government.

        • Bermudian says:

Hellerrrrr! Comon sense doesn’t seem so common.

        • Tommy Chong says:

I agree that ways to entice IB to come work in Bermuda are needed but if this was oba’s focus they should of just announced that term limits would be done away with for international businesses not all businesses. This will not help the unemployment level go down because now they have left a loophole for employers of Bermudian businesses to bring a majority work permit staff in with unlimited turnovers of their permits. This will increase crime just the same as it has done in the UK & other countries were blue collar jobs have been flooded by foreign workers leaving nationals jobless, shelterless, hungry & angry.

          • Eastern says:

Oh, you mean like the PLP did?

            • Tommy Chong says:

No plp didn’t but plp is not the governing party anymore. The governing party are the ones who announced a change that would bring about a better Bermuda for Bermudians. So far oba’s actions instead of being calculated have been shoot at the hip wild west style just the same as plp was. This is not a change but just a different route to the same destination of increased unemployment & poverty of locals. When plans are decided on there should be concrete facts that back them up not opinions taken from a board who’s members will all gain from our nation’s loss.

              • Independent says:

                @ Tommy Chong,

We dont always agree on everything, but I have to agree with you on this. The OBA ran on betterg governance, but I haven’t seen better, I have seen a differnt route as you put it. IF people are gonna sit there and say “well the PlP did it” does not help the country, as we are accepting the same behavior of the previous GOV.

      • frank says:

        that is the truth

      • blankman says:

concerned, what’s your problem with “IB interests” – a significant percentage of the jobs lost under the former government are in IB (even more if you count those that are directly and indirectly dependent on that sector). If the island doesn’t manage to lure those jobs back we’re in deep doo doo.

      • BendEm Like Beckam says:

        1) They haven’t had any money that is “unaccounted for”
        2) They haven’t bitten the very hands that feed us.
        3) They are not awarding contracts simply on the basis that one qualifies because they are a friend or family member.
        4) They did not call a NATIONAL HOLIDAY and WASTE $4 millionjust because they won – they actually wen’t to work instead or going to party.

Give them time. They have 13 years of mess and”unaccounted for” money to go through and find out where it went.

WHERE IS THE OBA’S RESPONSE TO THE USE OF THE WORD Xenophobia BY MR BRONCO CALLING ALL BERMUDIANS SUCH? Where is there response, I have yet to hear it, still waiting……

      • media says:

Here is the actual quote. Not quite what you were saying he had said.

“We believe the reason they went ahead with putting the Policy in place was to pander to the xenophobic views of those Bermudians who would like Bermuda to be foreigner-free.”

        • LOL (original TM*) says:

This are hardly ever the way STIF (Special… all other names she’s used in the passed cause there are to many to write them all down) put them. She has a way of disseminating half truths that is astounding….

LOL I have actually read most of her posts and she comes close for me to agree with her on some issues but then throw a major tangent at the end of her logic that kills the whole thing. She’s like listening to 102.7 any day of the week. Right family ;)

          LOL

      • sucka... says:

        suckkkkk.aaaaaaaa.d

      • Orbit says:

        Wha ya dumb?

      • Pastor Syl says:

@ STIF: would be novel if you lived up to the fairness part of your name. Mr. Branco didn’t say ALL and you know it so stop trying to agitate. You also know there is a significant portion of our community that wants all foreigners gone, especially the British, Canadians and Filipinos. I am sure you are aware of the numerous acts of arson that have occurred over the last year specifically targeting Filipinos’ s transport. The last was just a few days ago where the bikes were set alight and the fire spread to the house where the family was asleep. They could have been burned to death in their beds! Now THERE is xenophobia in action!

    • Ballotelli says:

Marc Bean is just not up to the job. Inexperienced, not particularly bright and prone to unwise outbursts. I can’t see Bermuda electing him.

      • mixitup says:

You obviously don’t know Marc Bean…I’ll bet you my last dollar he’s much smarter than you.

        • Um Um Like says:

Didn’t you already bet your last dollar that the plp would be re-elected on dec 17th?

        • #NoWay says:

          Your LAST dollar, dun? Serious?

        • OMG says:

OMG – I listened to him last night and he can hardly string a sentence together. Thank the Lord the PLP was not elected as it would be embarassing if he had to go offshore and speak to others.

eg. Mouf = mouth there were so many examples of bad grammer.

          • Truth hurts says:

            Axe = asked????

            Troof = truth???

            It’s English, people!

          @mixitup
          Deal.

      • mpartiality says:

rmuda does not elect idiots. The PLP delegates do. This is because they are all pathological.

    • Out of flight says:

Such sad and unnecessary and lunatic comments from his demonic mouth.

      • mpartiality says:

It is what it is. I was afraid for the talk show host last night. Shame on you Marc . Your demeanour and attitude is years old. And way too late. In fact way out of tune.

    • Pastor Syl Hayward says:

@ Not Fooled: “I agree, giving the kids of work permit holders the right to work without a permit is DEMONIC!”

First, the ‘kids of work permit holders’ were NOT given the right to work without a permit. We, the public, were given the opportunity to see and comment on a DRAFT proposal BEFORE it was made into law.

Second, the meaning of ‘demonic’ is something extremely evil or cruel; expressive of cruelty or befitting hell. It is a very serious charge and not to be bandied about frivolously.

      • mpartiality says:

shame on you pastor. We all know that there are other words that can be used that would be far more acceptable than the word demonic. Would you appreciate it if what you stand for and your congregation were called demonic. If you think something is harsh, cruel or unacceptable just say so. Keep it simple and uncomplicated. OBA’s attempt was shocking and disappointing – but certainly not demonic in this sense regardless of definitions. By the way you seem to be straddling the fence in all regards when will you choose which side is more comfortable for you to land on?

        • Pastor Syl says:

@ impartiality…Seems I wasn’t very clear. So far from endorsing what was said I was trying to make an opposing point by addressing the quoted snippet. I think Mr. Bean was way out of order to use such an evocative word. He and his party may not have appreciated something the OBA did but nothing warrants using a word that implies evil intent or possession bt Satan’s minions.

        • Wtf says:

          Huh?

  2. Triangle Drifter says:

Well now that was a smooth way of telling Bean to engage his brain before opening his mouth next time.

    • M.P. MOUNTBATTEN JP says:

I say Ol’Chap , anybody that puts drugs onto our streets is quite rightly called demonic .

      • Tooth Fairy says:

Everyone wants to blame someone else – nobody wants to be held accountable! Much easier to call someone else names! Even if the put drugs on your streets, are you so weak minded that you must try them and buy them?!

      • Mad Dawg says:

        You really are an idiot.

      • Um Um Like says:

        Libel 101

      • mpartiality says:

ummm! Truer words have never been spoken. Demonic is absolutely used in this context. Now please excuse me while I light my spliff!

  3. DJ says:

Marc needs to decide if he is going to cooperate or fight!
He has a new mantra that he put out there. Now he is trying to garner support with the old heads with the hate rhetoric.
You cant have it both ways. Make a decision.

    • It is obvious that you are not sure yourself what your saying,Mr Bean made a comment that I believe was far nicer then what I would call the actions of Thad Hollis and others in the O.B.A, so let me put it this way,I dont mind being sc%^$ed up the b%^^$^,but atleast tongue me while you are doing it,so I can enjoy it as much as you.

Bermudains are being screwed big time by those who will stop at nothing to protect the interest of an elite few,so if people dont like the fact that Mr Bean is willing to call a spade a spade, then they are the real ones in denial.

A good fight is when you can congradulate people when they are doing the good of the people and you ca also rip them a whole new ass when the situation warrants it,it’s called being balanced.

Overall the term limits issue is one that we need to fight hard against these demonic tactics and drive these damn forces oout, even if we have to over throw this government, after all we are living in a different era were loyalty does not have the political clout it once had.

      • Sandgrownan says:

What exactly did the term limit policy achieve? In your own words.

      • Standing on Transparency, Inclusiveness and Fairness says says:

Well said Mr Santucci, and they overlook the nasty and distasteful comments of their own Mr Bronco. Where is the outcry in regards to him. I guess they are blind and deaf depending on whom is saying something. lol

        • Onion says:

That would be because xenophobic isn’t really an insult… Not to mention that the these views have been expressed publicly by members of the PLP. Col.Burch for example in 2010 regarding term limits. The meeting at Berkeley where he stated that ONLY Bermudians in IB could attend and they wanted ID to prove Bermudian status…

        • Argosy says:

“Bermudains are being screwed big time by those who will stop at nothing to protect the interest of an elite few,so if people dont like the fact that Mr Bean is willing to call a spade a spade, then they are the real ones in denial.”

Did you or Marc Bean say anything remotely resembling these words when the Doc. was weilding his screw driver?

          • LOL (original TM*) says:

I want to know what the PLP supporters on hear think about the 100 thousand $(could have been more just had a glimps of it) that was concealed from the public durring the PLP rule ad that to the debt………

    • Building a better Bermuda says:

    • blessings says:

He is so intelligent that Islander thinks someone is writing his speeches. He is a BLACK WISE MAN!!! As I listened to him and Gary Moreno, there wasn’t any paper work or partner present. He spoke as a man of the prophets. Now let me mention there are people on both sides that speak well and I admire the few, but Mr. Marc Bean deserves credit. He is a great representative. He is educated.
Blessings also to his parents, they have produced a fine man.

I believe he can reach the youth and in all honesty our premier may learn well from him. Don’t chastise a man of value.
I give credit where due to both sides who present and address professionally. So Islander measure twice then cut.

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

Would be nice if a suggestion I made on another story was taken up by him and the Premier concerning the youth and neighborhoods caught in the cross fire showing a united front concerning the violence in our streets also giving the community a chance to voice concerns to both reps of the government. It would be nice instead of some radio stations harping on things to the point of possible instigation of some to riot style frenzy over things instead of trying to involve people in the governing process that they wanted people to do when the PLP were in power……………….

LOL government is to serve the all the people not just the 36% give or take a few that choose to vote. Have we ever had over 60% voter turn out?

      • Wtf says:

        “He is educated.”

Is that’s where the bar is these days?

  5. tidbit says:

As a black Bermudian male Christian I think it is disgusting for Marc Bean to make such a degrading statement towars the OBA. After having attended an inspirational church service, and sitting under the spoken Word, my question is why did they attend church. Is it for tradtion sake or was it for spiritual renewal. I too heard the whole service. Not all of us AMES voted PLP, because of this type of mentality.

    Let’s stop being childish Marc.

      • Mad Dawg says:

He did not call “all Bermudians” xenophobic. Wise up.

Where is there response, I have yet to hear it, still waiting…… in the house on friday, many of the OBA MPs were below standards and extremely disrespectful in their choice of words, guess you only can see or hear it when someone else does it !!

    • blessings says:

  6. Verbal Kint says:

Marc Bean! Spice Hill. Planning. Anybody?

  7. Argosy says:

    Well said, Thad.

  8. Hmmmmm says:

Thad should’ve listened to Mark Pettingill and Wayne Scott in the House on Friday. Pettingill was snide, ingracious and downright nasty in his remarks. Wayne Scott was shockingly low with his “shame on you” diatribe in his maiden speech. As Marc Bean said in response to an interpolation during his Reply: “if you want harmony then speak harmony”.

    • Balanced Facts says:

SO he rose above it all showed leadership by not responding in the same alleged way…

      • Mad Dawg says:

Are you sure he isn’t being pulled by strange invisible forces?

  10. We See Behind The Curtain Fahy... says:

It is not that they are demonic – as they are indeed still alive…it is that they are masonic…ask any of the “bretheren” and they will tell you whom they worship – “the angel of light’ – read “Lucifer.”

This is true… just ask fahy or branco…it is in their constitution not to lie about this.

But hey keep your heads in the clouds as to who run your new goverment.

IB will leave when they fail regardless of permit issues. I have just seen some Q4 results and if this trend continues no “work permit policy” will keep some of these companies here because there will not be a company to work in…fools.

  11. Rhonda says:

I was therr and it was used as a…metaphor…. if anyone does…… they must be demonic…..so I guess the OBA is guilty….if the cap fits wear it….

    • jt says:

Like ur dunce cap Rhonda – custom fit.

    • Balanced Facts says:

I think you are trying to say is was qualified as opposed to metaphor ! In any event, cut it how you like, Bean is as offensive and snarky as the worst of them, OBA OR PLP!

  12. tidbit says:

@ We See Behind The Curtain Fahy, both parties are inundated with Masonic bretheren….park outside their Lodges sometime. One is right on Reid Street and see who goes in and out. You will be surprise to find out who is in the Lodge. Just that some are more open with it, wearing their rings. But many, many You might be totally shocked to actually see who is elevated in the organization.

  13. Toodle-oo says:

Thad’s response was thoughtful, well reasoned and very tactful. The problem is that it was as useful as throwing diplomatic bouquets of flowers to the Communists during the 60s and 70s. They just don’t get it , and never will.

As the dust slowly settles from the Dec 17th election results it becomes more and more obvious that the PLP remain in full tilt election mode and are more determined than ever to keep their supporters full of rage and invective. To be even more divisionary than ever. And that includes their political arm known as the BIU. How dare anyone take away their God given right to govern this island ?

It’s almost impossible to believe that in an island filled with people who think they’re so very smart , no , clever and wise , that they willingly fall for this stuff. It would seem that rather we’re an island filled with completely illiterate fools. Well , maybe 50 / 50 .

The OBA must continually bear this in mind and pick their battles wisely and ignore the background noise.

The not so thinly veiled threats of civil unrest are most disturbing seeing they come from these so called ‘intelligent’ people . The PLP is now doing its utmost to completely destabilise Bermuda, all to regain the ‘powa’.

    • finally........ says:

well said. thank you. couldn’t agree more.

    • dthtoo/ says:

Keep God out of it! God didn’t give the OBA a damn thing. They came via special delivery by Lucifer!

    • Pastor Syl Hayward says:

@ toodle-oo: Thank you. Destabilize is the exact word I was looking for. It is against the law to incite people to riot. Some folks are skating very close to the wire. The riots of the 60′s had a righteous purpose. There were very real inequalities. This manufactured tension will destroy us all, including the ones who are promoting it.

      • Toodle-oo says:

The thing is , if they succeed, their hate filled , bitter at no longer being percieved as ‘in powa’ supporters will really and truly believe that it is the complete fault of the (white boogeyman) OBAubp.

The PLP had their chance at destroying Bermuda and they very nearly succeeded. It’s now obvious that they will go to any lengths to finish the job off. No matter how they do it. In government or not.

  14. Nuffin but de Truth! says:

The only Demons are what is left of the plp.

Good will always rise up and beat evil.

  15. So sad that mud slinging, disrespect, name calling n hatred runs amock when our island is sinking in debt n sin n perhaps sinking to rise no more. From what I read n at times hear, there are many demonic spirits within our midst. From PLP to OBA to UBP to the NLP to the DPP n any other kind of P.

I find it a wonderful example to display in front of our UP n coming young people. Our leaders cannot set the example of respects for one another n we expect our young folk to act right, do right n walk right when they observe the attacks among the adults that has charge of our island’s destination to nowhere at this point n time. Are we a democratic society or a dictatorial society.
These are the last days n we cannot beat GOD’s giving no matter how hard any of us try.
So either fight the good fight or go down fighting. But these attacks on one another is the exact reason why we find this island in the state that it is in.
Robert Nesta Marley, penned, “Man to man is (still) so unjust; we still dont know who to trust”…we better stop that train n trend of thought. It is hurting everybody.

    It is time!!!

  16. Standing on Transparency, Inclusiveness and Fairness says says:

And as a white woman I think it was more than disgraceful for your co-chair of the OBA to call me and others Xenophobia, WHERE IS THE OBA’S RESPONSE TO THE USE OF THE WORD Xenophobia BY MR BRONCO CALLING ALL BERMUDIANS SUCH? Where is their response, I have yet to hear it, still waiting…… in the house on friday, many of the OBA MPs were below standards and extremely disrespectful in their choice of words, guess you only can see or hear it when someone else does it !!Mark Pettingill and Wayne Scott were outright like children with a new toy, and extremely outright rude and pompous, arrogant, haughty and condescending. I did not hear one word from the OBA supporters in that regard…guess it whom saying it that makes a different. aha

    • O'Brien says:

Sweetie – I don’t think ‘xenophobia’ means what you think it means…

      • Standing on Transparency, Inclusiveness and Fairness says says:

@O’ Brien………………….Honey, I am not blind, deaf or stupid, I know what the word means, and the context in which he meant it. Only a blind person would attempt to cover and defend what Mr Bronco OBA was saying to Bermuda. He knew also, but just but a big grin on his face when asked directly, and MR Fahy pretended he did not know. Just like your leader, they played the “Hide and Seek” game really well. Always not taking on any responsibility and standing firm on an issue. This is a part of the OBA’s political strategy, but in the future it will not be effective for too long, as they are now the govt of the day, and folks will not stand for it. People want answers and a government that is not afraid to stand on a policy or issue and take full responsibility for it. OBA is afraid to take or speak loud on what they believe.

      • Tooth Fairy says:

Xenophobia is a dislike or fear of people from other countries or of that which is perceived to be foreign or strange. Some definitions suggest xenophobia as arising from irrationality or unreason.[1][2] It comes from the Greek words ξένος (xenos), meaning “stranger,” “foreigner,” and φόβος (phobos), meaning “fear.”[3]

Xenophobia can manifest itself in many ways involving the relations and perceptions of an ingroup towards an outgroup, including a fear of losing identity, suspicion of its activities, aggression, and desire to eliminate its presence to secure a presumed purity.[4] Xenophobia can also be exhibited in the form of an “uncritical exaltation of another culture” in which a culture is ascribed “an unreal, stereotyped and exotic quality”.[5] Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action urges all governments to take immediate measures and to develop strong policies to prevent and combat all forms and manifestations of racism, xenophobia or related intolerance, where necessary by enactment of appropriate legislation including penal measure

    • media says:

FYI – This is what he actually said. I hope it helps you understand he was not referring to all Bermudians.

“We believe the reason they went ahead with putting the Policy in place was to pander to the xenophobic views of those Bermudians who would like Bermuda to be foreigner-free.”

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

Again your wasting your time Special, Betty STIF what ever name she is going by these days (if she actually is a she as I have my gut feeling that she is not what she says she is “white or church going for that matter although she could be”) is just a pr machine from the PLP that will say anything she thinks will cause a stir in the public. She reps the old way of thinking that you must scare your supporters into following you……..

        LOL

  17. Just a thought says:

As a leader of the opposition, I feel Marc Bean has stooped beyond low in his choice of words. He is meant to set a good example…..I don’t see him jumping up and down about our young women having umpteen babies and the ammount of divorced people in supposedly Christian places of worship….no demons there then. Mr. Bean, please do not stoop down to mud throwing…this country is in a mess due to the global economy and the overspending of the previous government. The economy is affecting so many Bermudians and we must work together to do what is right. I have never seen so many advertised apartments in the paper …..these were rented by expats who paid rent to Bermudians, shopped in our Bermudian owned grocery stores, bought clothes, ate out and gave freely to philanthropic causes….Bermudians were the ones who benefitted from this economy…it’s a case of balance as anywhere else in the world. Other countries also have foreign workers…we must be part of the global economy…we are too small to sustain ourselves. I am Bermudian, always voted PLP and am tired of the infighting. You are out of order Mr Bean and I have lost some respect for you by the spewing of vitriolic accusations.

    • Standing on Transparency, Inclusiveness and Fairness says says:

      @Just a thought

Anyone that stoop low was the OBA BRANCO and his use of the word to call us “Bermudians XXenophobia XENOPHOBIA”, I think the OBA have failed to deal with that matter, the MPs just dismissed his behaviour like a good little school boy. THat was more degrading than any words the Hon Mark Bean used. So I think you need to say that the OBA Branco was out of order and spewing a heck of a lot of vitriolic accusations. Lets not forget to deal with your OBA MPs and chairpersons, why excuse them, yet attempt to attack Mr Bean? Oh did you hear the nasty language by your OBA MPs in the house this past friday? Many acted like school children in the playground. OBA did a heck of a lot of mud throwing, and it was okay I guess in your eyes. If you going to judge others, first judge your own party’s bad behaviors. Get real !

      • Bermudaboi says:

Bermudians are xenophobic! We are quick to blame foreigners for our own mistakes! Stop inhaling that PLP smokescreen

        • LOL (original TM*) says:

          She is the smoke screen……….

          LOL

        • Independent says:

          @Bermydaboi,

I have worked with foreigners all my life (hospitality industry), and to label most Bermudians as xenophobic is wrong. No need to generalize.

      • Mad Dawg says:

When bus stops are spray painted with hate slogans against people from one country, isn’t that an example of xenophobia?

  18. debbie ray says:

We will see if the OBA is this great party of leaders that we need. Or will they mess up and blame it all on the PLP?

    • Bermudian says:

Have you forgotten the mess that they have inherited from the PLP?

    • jt says:

      define “mess up”

      • OMG says:

Please define the many that are under employed, out of work, cannot get work, public debt, overspending, cronyism etc. etc.
        Shall I continue?

    • Sandgrownan says:

To be fair, we ARE f****d because of the PLP

    • dthtoo/ says:

The OBA are masters at finger-pointing. They are nothing but a bunch of frightened little cowards.

      • You gutless wonder says:

They stood up to be counted, they were inulted, torn at lied about and treated like dirt, but they were counted and when they were counted they were chosen to be the new government… Frightened little cowards has no pkace when describing the OBA.

      • Building a better Bermuda says:

As opposed to the PLP who were still trying to blame the UBP 10 + years into their reign.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

It is not possible for the OBA to mess up any worse than the PLP. The PLP took over a working car in 1998. The OBA has taken over a wreck that should be taken to the dump if only it could.

The OBA has to salvage Bermuda & get it back on the right road again. Part of that will be picking the legitimate battles with the PLP & ignoring the noise. So far all that has been heard is distracting noise.

      • Building a better Bermuda says:

That is why Thad was responding and not any of the ministers or MP’s, they are busy with getting Bermuda back up and running.

      • mixitup says:

Go sleep with ya pre 1998 Bliss! You obviously never carried a brown paper bag as your lunch box to school did you?

        • Mad Dawg says:

I made my own lunch and took it in a paper bag. Happy now?

You have no idea do you.

          • mixitup says:

I never said I had lunch in it…So it you who have no idea.

            • LOL (original TM*) says:

LOL funnny sad but funnnny ………

Those who know and all that…………..

        • dthtoo/ says:

If ya talkin’ to me – I never carried lunch in a brown paper bag to school. I walked home for a home-cooked meal.

  19. Bermudian says:

Wow, here I thought under Marc Bean’s leadership we were going to see a new PLP without such toxicity. Why on earth would he even call the OBA demonic??? Come on, the PLP squandered OUR money, bullied IB off the island, left us in a debt that our great, great grands will be paying off and might I point out not once did the PLP ever say sorry. Sorry for ruining this once wealthy island. Who’s demonic????? OBA full steam ahead..

    • Standing on Transparency, Inclusiveness and Fairness says says:

@Bermudian, you kept the money for yourself and selected few. The OBA is only out to protect the interest of a few. So stop with you bull and look inside the structure of the OBA, and if you open your eyes wide enough you will see how the word is fitting to the OBA.

      • Mad Dawg says:

Talking of. “protecting the interest of a few”, what’s the story with Spice Hill?

        • Bermudaboi says:

What are you on the PLP payroll? Which one of the PLP MPs are you? You are really blind to defend PLP unless you are benefiting from them directly. They drove this island into the dirt.

      • Bermudian says:

@ Standing on Transparency- I don’t know where you get the information to make a comment about me. I kept the money for my self and a select few??? Lets get on thing straight, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon, I didn’t have maids, heck I didn’t even have my own room. My parents worked their butts off to support us and theyre proud of it. They also taught me how wrong it is to pretend to be saint in church and act like a sinner outside. Lets not pretend to be naive…in every country there are ‘classes’ of people and everyone has a choices in life. AND lets not get it twisted, my vote helped put the PLP in years ago, but my mom didn’t raise a fool. I know when I’m getting
&%^$& up the ass, so bye bye PLP and hello to a new era. Those who didn’t like the outcome, better luck next time.

    • dthtoo/ says:

In whose hands was the wealth of this island? The history books will tell you how they acquired it too.
Reparations is due and it has no expiry date.

      • Steve Moffat says:

The PLP had the wealth of this country in their hands. Reparations?? Yeah, the PLP took care of that too.. Go get the reparations from them!!

  20. Opressed says:

Bean the puppet, DEB, the puppet MASTER.

  21. Come On Man!!! says:

Does he even know what Demonic means? He’s trying to say they are inspired by a demon indwelling spirit, or genius. I wonder about this fellow Marc Bean there’s something not right about him. Remember ” Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity”.

    • mixitup says:

“Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity”.

Now go to the mirror and repeat that 10 times.

      • Come On Man!!! says:

I guess your speaking from experience thanks for the advice. IDIOT.

    • Concerned says:

I agree, and know him and his family very well.

      • Come On Man!!! says:

You agree so you also have said it in the mirror. Another dreamer. Birds of a feather.

  22. Liars/Truth says:

    ^%$ bean

  23. Bermudican says:

Sandgrownman Seems to have an informed comprehensive grasp of the situation at present and i’d vote that type of clarity ->Up if it could be done at Bermy news.

  24. Bermudican says:

I am currently, ” pickin up the wibrations ” this might be because of the Luciferian Rebellion which has already been adjudicated .

    • Standing on Transparency, Inclusiveness and Fairness says says:

The OBA used extremely distastful words in the house on Friday, and futher more have said nothing in regards to the choice of words used by MR Branco. Guess some folks live in Glass HOuses, and do not want to admit to the many mis-steps of the OBA. THe distastful and nasty choice of words used by the OBA MPs and Mr Branco, has a lot to be desired. Please go clean up your own house first, before attempting to throw stones at Mr Bean, the picture from my view of the OBA is not looking pretty at all. Those glass houses are about to crack the OBA wide open soon.

      • Victor says:

When EFB and the PLP apologise for calling the minority 35% of the population Plantation owners, then you can complain…

  25. Pilot001 says:

Mr. Bean was really good on Let’s Talk tonight.

  26. 32n64w says:

So Mr. Bean attempts to use a tween’s story about wizards and make believe as a basis for critiquing the current Government?

Sounds about right given the 14 year fairy tale of lies we’ve just had to endure.

  27. Victor says:

The irony is that Mr. Bean is playing straight into the OBA’s hands with talk like that. It might play well to the core but just drives the thirty percent who did not vote farther away – every bit as much as running a candidate like Rolfe Commissiong, the likes of whom probably won it for the OBA. Keep up the good work pal…

  28. Dan dan says:

I read with interest all the various comments made. It is very obvious of the smoke screens being put up by the PLP to take away from their ‘misadventures’ over the past 14 years. They are sore that they lost and are fearful of what will be done when all is exposed – when the information surfaces. Please PLP do not confuse the people of Bermuda any more, be gracious losers and move on. We have to come together to bring this country back from the brink of implosion and don’t blame it on the OBA! Remember they have been the Government for 2 months! Today’s ills were in place before then!

  29. Vulpes says:

Putting the rhetoric (may be too polite a word) aside -

Employment creates more employment, unemployment (especially when Government mandated) creates more unemployment. Therefore to get this economy going again, (rather than all of us sitting on the wall wailing about how unfair it all is), let the kids of expats work without permits…It will bind high earning executives to the Rock and at the end of the day create a lot of jobs for all.

  30. Rhonda says:

name the many words the OBA used to describe the PLP, then again, we are in the JW effect…..if the backers of the OBA say it, no need for the rest of us to think….

  31. CHEEE KUMS BIE says:

ummmmmmm HE DIDNT DENY THE STATEMENT HE JUST SAID IT RUNS COUNTER
“Opposition Leader Marc Bean’s description of the One Bermuda Alliance as a “demonic” institution runs totally counter to this approach, and betrays a mindset that is deeply at odds with the decision Bermudians made in the December 17 election.

MARC BEAN DIDN’T SAY THE Bermudians WERE DEMONIC OR THE DECISION THAT THEY MADE ON DEC 17, WAS DEMONIC HE SAID THAT THE OBA IS A DEMONIC INSTITUTION, WHICH WHEN YOU LOOK AT HOW IT WAS FORMED AND THE TRICKERY USED AND THE SATAN POSSESSED BLOGGERS THAT WENT ON A NONE STOP RAMPAGE TO TRY TO DEMONIZE BLACK LEADERS AND TO USE RACIST PICTURES TO MAKE FUN OF THEM SHOWS A DEMONIC INSTITUTION.

AND THE FACT THAT MINISTER FHAY LIED ABOUT THE TERM LIMITS WHEN HE PROMISED WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO THEN HE REVERSED THAT PROMISE WITHOUT CONSULTING THE VERY SAME PEOPLE WHO VOTED HIM IN = DEMONIC

    • Balanced Facts says:

Fahy was not voted in, he’s a Senator.
Term limits were a policy, not really used by the PLP and many int he Party agreed they should be abolished.
The oBA road they would abolish term limits in 2 years…they moved the decision forward one in power and after consultation.
Get the facts before you make your head explode!

  32. Really? says:

The only thing Demonic is how your supporters act… and the way in which a segment of the population goes about killing off there brothers and sisters… That “Sir” (not deserved) is Demonic!

  33. Yankee Boy says:

Marc statement is unfortunate from 2 perspectives 1) As a Rastafarian 2) As the newly appointed political leader of the PLP .

Your approach is “old school ” using one of the oldest tricks in the book: Accuse your opponent of being or doing what you actually are and what you actually do!

Come on Cousin, please don’t allow yourself to be influence or manipulative by your current advisor. Your mother taught you to “seek wise counsel”. This statement is spoken in LOVE because You represent Bermuda’s future generations. Be an Ambassador for Haille Selassie – Peace, Love, Forgiveness, Downtrodden.

Use your influence and political capital wisely.

    • mpartiality says:

you can’t teach a sick mind new tricks. Save your energy for someone who is more available and willing to receive it. If you listen to his every word he shows an antagonist mentality of those who engage in Rastafarian practices. However also note that while some who use these practices endeavour to abide fully others use rastafarianism as an excuse to engage in only one aspect of rastafarianism. Haile Salassie is an e cause to fool you into believing that he is about something. Ask any African particularly any Ethopian about the man and you will shrug at their extort. Whomever is advising or leader is really working against him. But be does not recognise it simply because he is far too busy believing in his arrogance that only speaks to his over stated sense of worth!!!!!!! Hmmmmmm!

  34. idiots are stupid says:

yeah cuz in the eyes of these hate-mongering racists, anybody who supports white people is A DEVIL!

the white man is NOT the devil or devils, and you losers need to grow some damn braincells and stop being so racist!

i have read your books, texts, prophets, and goddamn you people are sick in the head! white man is not evil, and we are not demons!

this black supremacist slander needs to stop. Chuck their stupid tails in prison where they belong!

how would you lot like it if we called black people or parties “demons?”

how do you think it feels to be demonized every day of your life?

the idiots will just say, we do know cuz your white ancestors oppressed us! WELL NO! your ancestors were oppressed, NOT YOU. So you DONT know, and NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE DID IT! we whites alive today DID NOT own slaves! get over it!Blacks owned slaves too! There were just as many white slaves in Bermuda as black and other. But you are too ignorant to know this.

This demonizing of a race and its political supporting parties NEEDS TO BE CRIMINALIZED!!!!!!!!! it erodes away any social bonds that exist in society, which was the agenda of the PLP

    • CHEEE KUMS BIE says:

      ^^^^clearly a demonized blogger,
“i have read your books, texts, prophets, and goddamn you people are sick in the head!”

THE USE OF THE WORDS “YOU PEOPLE” SHOWS THAT YOU VIEW ALL BLACK PEOPLE LIKE THIS AND THIS IS WHAT MAKES YOU A RACIST…AND A DEMON

“There were just as many white slaves in Bermuda as black and other. But you are too ignorant to know this.”

ROFLMAO……PLEASE WHERE IS THE PROOF OF THIS

    • Victor says:

Well Said! Also, ignorance or worse such as you describe makes us the laughing stock of the whole world – just at the time that we need outside investment more than ever before.

    • Impressive says:

I cant believe what you just typed,,, Mr Bean said the party is demonic, as far as I know the OBA is made up of black and white people, or are you saying that the black people in the party dont count and the term demonic only refers to the white ones?? You have read “Our” books, texts, etc and we people are sick in the head?? Now that is a generalization if I ever saw it,, Then you go on to call us idiots?? Who are idiots? Do you know that anyone over the age of 50 years old grew up in a segregated Bermuda,, I am not talking about 1776, I am talking about 1965. Do you know schools where desegregated in Bermuda in 1971?????? That was the year I was born, and i dont consider myself an old person.. Do you not think the impact of these policies will effect the children and grandchildren of those effected.. Those scars will not be healed over night and for you to assume otherwise and just accept that we black people just get over it and forget it is very unfair and ignorant.. Your post is one of the worst I have ever seen on any blog.

      • Vulpes says:

Yes, the thing about the PLP is we are always promised a better past.

      • Eastern says:

        @ Impressive

That’s a lie. I entered the public school system in 1964 and there were many blacks in the school then. I can name some very well known black men and women that entered school with me in 1964.
Don’t talk about the things of which you know not.

        • Impressive says:

I stand by what I said,, the last school to be desegregated in Bermuda was in 1971..

          • Mad Dawg says:

Anyone who left school in 1971 has pretty much retired anyway.

  35. Babydoll says:

I would like to ask why Mr Bean a young leader of the PLP would say such words at a drum ceremony. It is very sad that some people can not see two feet in front of them. We the people of this country gave that party 14 years to get it right and they just did not understand it, it was not about filing there pockets it was about making sure the people do have a job and that the students of this country can have a job when they get out of school for the summer. But now that they decided to get rid of the expats as you all call them your children will come home from college and have no work. We will always need company’s to come here and run there business from this island, because you Bermudianas that are not blind we can not and never do it on our own (HELLO). A lot of you people have benefitted well from these companys, and you are out there please start to talk out loud because your people need to hear from you. The funny thing is look how many Bermudianas have flocked to the mother country to live of the dole, at one point they did not even like Britain but now they are living there. Do you know why, because they are some where else that they can live for free how funny is that. It’s not and it make me sick every time I think about it. I have both a very old BDA family as well as a British family and I have never made anyone that works here by a work permit feel uncomfortable because they are keeping me employed for now and I hope it will stay that way, so all you people that have some smarts please help the people that don’t. As long as you are a hard workers you will always have a job or will get a job and you will keep that job as long as the company you work for does not get chased away and that the small BDA business stay open. So all I can say come on back to Bermuda please.

  36. Chris P Bacon says:

Let Mr Bean say what he wants. At the end of the day, if his party had performed they might have stayed in power. If calling the OBA ‘demonic’ is really the best he can do, then PLP doesn’t stand a hope in hell of getting re-elected.

In addition, whenever Mr Bean speaks, he sounds high. Not a good representation of PLP. But then they passed on Lister didn’t they. Its almost as if PLP wants to self destruct and they put Bean in there so they could blame him. Talk about demonic!

  37. Well done Mark Bean….You spoke the truth last night sir….I got your back and will greet you when I see you hard at work to rebuild the PLP. All of you OBA haters can take a hike..Ha Ha Ha you all make me laugh..
We will not be moved as we do not scare easily……

  38. watchfuleyes says:

yes finally a black man(leader) who stands up and speaks it like it is. Well done on the talk show last night. Yes we got your back too.

    • mpartiality says:

visine or optrex is great to clear the eyes. Try some and you will see clearly where the Bean mentality will take you. Protect your own back rather than wasting your time having his. He is quite capable of getting his own back but not yours!!

  39. tsol says:

“yes finally a black man(leader) who stands up and speaks it like it is. Well done on the talk show last night. Yes we got your back too.”

Yeah I heard the exact same words spoken about Ewart Brown a couple of years ago.

  40. this island is myhome says:

Im soooo danm glad someone had the balls to speak out. All i will say is that we as a nation need to go back to our roots. God tells us that his people parrish because of lack of knowledge. Sooo you all need to go and do some research and find out were Mr. Mark Bean was coming from. Seems to me some of Y’all dont know your history.

ThIs is coming from a young black Bermudian worker age 23 been working from the age 14. This is for the “babydoll” person the problem is now that we have a new kind of unemployment people who have families mortgage, rent, car notes and so on. These people can’t get jobs and they worked their asses off when they were working honey, y’all just talking to hear yourself.

Only reason OBA won was because they brain washed our young people and many DID NOT VOTE. OHHH BUT THE NEXT ONE HMMMMM OBA IDK!

    • Who wrote the report? says:

And guess when the recession and all it’s adverse affects came to fruition? Under your beloved PLP reign with their policies and actions.

So brainwashed is a term more suited to you my friend….

    • Come On Man!!! says:

Why do PLP supporters have such short memories? You forget that the PLP brainwashed the young people and the Taxi drivers and this time their BS didn’t work.

    • BDAboy says:

“Only reason OBA won was because they brain washed our young people and many DID NOT VOTE. ”

Sad that our young are so weak minded, is that really our future?

  41. this island is myhome says:

BAINWASHED HMMMM, NOW TELL ME WHAT HAS OBA DONE SO FAR WHAT HAS OBA TALKED ABOUT SOOOO FAR U TELL ME HOW R THEY GONNA HELP US TELL ME. BECAUSE AS A YOUNG BERMUDIAN I SEE THAT THEY R MORE INTERESTED IN HELPING PEOPLE THATS ONLY HERE TO GET PAID AND BOUNCE HONEYYY!

  42. PLP Granger says:

And with a whisk of a wand – “Evanesco” $2.4B disappears.

  43. yes says:

back to name calling again will the PLP ever learn wow wake up leaders this is the bad example and behavior our young people learn from

  44. Islander says:

Was it not Marc Bean who sat in the Assembly listening and watching and commented on the name calling and so on. Lead your team Marc in the ways they should go and as they mature, they shall not stray from your leading. Then again……..

  45. Moonbeam says:

I’m trying to figure out if Marc Bean is ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing’ or ‘a sheep in wolf’s clothing’. I had some high hopes when he first agreed to work WITH the OBA, but since then, some of his words and actions indicate the exact opposite ! Maybe he’s just too much under the control of the PLP regime. Come on Marc – you know right from wrong, so prove it ! By the way, Terry Lister made the right decision – good for him !
