March 21, 2013

Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School [BBFS] partnered with HSBC Bermuda to hold the island’s 3rd HSBC-BBFS College Festival recently.

A BBFS spokesperson said, “Coaches and Scouts from The United States, Canada and England visited the island for 5 days to train youth players aged 11 – 21 on skills and techniques required when playing football at college and professional levels.

“Nearly 100 pre-selected student athletes from Bermuda’s middle and senior schools were given first hand information on what is required to become a college student athlete and learned more about topics ranging from preparing for college admissions, SAT exam requirements and applying for athletic scholarships.

“During the 5 day event Brett Mosen, HSBC BBFS College Festival International Coaching Director and his team, evaluated each player and made various recommendations to BBFS President Dennis Brown and CEO Cal Blankendal.

“As a result of their evaluations, we are pleased to announce that Chae Brangman, will attend a one week trial at Stoke City Football Club of the English Premier League.”

Brett Mosen HSBC BBFS College Festival International Coaching Director said, “”We have been tracking Chae’s progress via the HSBC BBFS College Prep School Festival event over the past couple of years (2011 & 2012), from which Chae was identified as a player of potential.

“Following the Festival event in February, I spoke with my colleague Barry MacLean, who represents a number of players within the MLS & English Premier League.

“Barry was instrumental in the recent transfer of Breck Shae from FC Dallas to Stoke City, so based on this relationship, Stoke City seemed an obvious starting point where we can measure Chae’s progress. I think Chae has all the tools required to make it in the game, the platform is set & now it is up to Chae to prove himself at the next level.”

Dennis Brown, President of BBFS said, “Our efforts have proven that Bermuda has the talent and as long as we support our student athletes, they will continue to develop into outstanding citizens.

“BBFS wishes to congratulate Chae, his parents, CedarBridge Academy and Bermuda Football Association League Champions (2012-2013) Devonshire Cougars, in aiding in his development as an individual and athlete. Having first coached Chae at the age of 14, I (we) wish Chae much success, in achieving all of his sporting and academic ambitions.”

Cal Blankendal, CEO of BBFS explains, “BBFS Bermuda is proud to support the educational and football development of Chae Brangman. Chae is not only a football player but also an outstanding student and youth volunteer trainee coach at BBFS Mid-term Camps.

“Upon his return from Stoke City FC, Chae will be coaching at the BBFS Easter Mid-term Camp (April 1-5) to pass on his skill sets, to the next generation of Bermuda’s student athletes.

“Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School and the HSBC BBFS 3rd Annual College Prep School Festival, has proven that we can develop our young male and female athletes, via first class academic and technical programs.

“BBFS also wishes to thank the XL Group (Bermuda) and Amlin (Bermuda) for their support of the HSBC BBFS 3rd Annual College Prep School Festival. We value all of our corporate partners and together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of Bermuda’s future leaders.”
