Opening Games Played In Girls Football Festival

The inaugural Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School [BBFS] International Girls Football Festival kicked off under windy and cool conditions this morning [Mar 29].

The festival opened with over 80 overseas visitors and proud Bermudian parents applauding their teams during the opening ceremony. BBFS U14′s and BFS Guelph proudly carried the FIFA FAIR PLAY Flag and acknowledged the corporate support of PartnerRe and the Argus Group of Companies.

BBFS U14 3- 1 BFS Guelph & Fergus:

BBFS and Guelph battled throughout the opening match. BBFS going with the wind took advantage of the early conditions to go up 2-0 at the half via goals by Symira Lowe and Nia Christopher. Nia Christopher, daughter of Dandy Town legend Lloyd Christopher, scored via a beautiful lob to make it 3-1.

The second half saw BFS Guelph take control of the match and saw BBFS defend for the majority of match. BFS Guelph earned a penalty after a foul in the box by Cally Blankendal and came back into the match 2-1.

Symira Lowe capped a fine MVP performance, to make it 3-1. BBFS was awarded a penalty but Leilanni Nesbit’s kick from the penalty mark, was saved by the goalkeeper of BFS Guelph.

BFA 17/20′s 2- 1 Monte Verde Academy

The BFA U17/20′s defeated the Monte Verde Eagles 2-1 after a very balanced 80 minutes. In the opening 20 minutes both teams were cautious with much play in the middle of the pitch. The U17′s went ahead 1-0 via Eva Frazionni but Fusion having only 13 players fought back bravely to end the half 1-0.

The second half saw the U17′s go ahead 2-0 via  Aliyah Nolan. Fusion persevered and pulled back the score to 2-1 via Marcel Damas. The goal was a result of some fantastic build up play. Fusion almost managed to equalize but Micah Pond made a great save to keep Bermuda in the lead as the game ended 2-1.

BFA Senior Women’s 2 – FC Virginia 3

The BFA Senior Women’s team got off to a good start via an early goal. FC Virginia came back to equalize and began to take control of the mid-field. FC Virgina scored against the break to go up 2-1 and would would hold on to win 3-2. Tashana Wade scored twice for Bermuda.

Tomorrow will see FC Virginia face FC Fusion at 9:00 am, followed by BFA U15′s vs BFS Guelph at 9:45 and BFA trial players at 11:00 am.
