Spirit Of Bermuda Plans Fundraising Drive

March 13, 2013

The Bermuda Sloop Foundation will be holding a press conference tomorrow [Mar 14] where they are expected to issue a fundraising rallying call for the “Spirit of Bermuda.”

The organisation said they are planning to reach out to the community to join efforts in saving the programme, saying “In our world, that means…all hands on deck!”

Launched in 2006 and operated by the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, the “Spirit of Bermuda” is an educational vessel intended to introduce its crews of young Bermudians to the island’s maritime heritage.

The Spirit of Bermuda is based on civilian Bermudian-type schooners built in Bermuda between 1810 and 1840. It has provided training for thousands of young people, sailing to over 15 ports in 10 countries.

The Foundation will host a press conference tomorrow on board the ship, where they plan to share details about their funding and donor status, and the resulting “Save Spirit of Bermuda Campaign.”

If every parent who has had a child sail on The Spirit, could give at least $10, that would be a great start for the Fund-raiser. It’s certainly a case needing ‘all hands on deck’. Good luck, Spirit.

A really great cause. Have sailed on “Spirit” myself. A lot of valuable lessons learned aboard.
