Traffic Offences: 45-Yr-Old Man Fined $9500

March 14, 2013

45-year-old Sean Mallory started his case in Magistrates Court this morning [Mar 14] by telling Magistrate Khomisi Tokunbo that he: “…had not worked for a year…I’m struggling and I’m doing my best.”

The Magistrate ordered that Mr Mallory — who had been arrested on warrants for failing to appear in Court — must serve 100 days in default of paying  $2,050 in unpaid fines outstanding since 2008.

The Magistrate added another 200 days of default time for new fines totaling around $7,500 and imposed this morning for a number of additional traffic offences that occurred in 2012. Mr Mallory can avoid imprisonment only by paying the total fines forthwith.

The 2012 offences included multiple charges of not having insurance, riding an unlicensed vehicle, and failing to stop. In addition, Mr Mallory was disqualified from driving/riding all vehicles for twelve months.

Fak…dis guy is an Idiot. He needs to pull himself out of the gene pool.

  2. bill of bermuda says:

This is a guy who seems to “expect breaks.” Catch the bus, walk, get lifts or cycle. Bermuda is not THAT big.

    serves his ass right!

    • Um Um Like says:

Yet we’ll pay for him to chill out behind bars. Not quite justice if you ask me!

      • Pastor Syl Hayward says:

@ Um um Like: You have a better suggestion. I’m sure we would all like to see some alternatives to fines and prison.

        • Um Um Like says:

Sure, how about community service? It’s not rocket science.

          • Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

u took the words right out of my mouth…lol. Hes obviously unemployed, so he can work it off and save US some money…Can’t you all see that the system was designed for the poor to fail at OUR expense…

      • Mr Nice Guy says:

Make him work it off. Give him a job digging ditches until he pays it off.

  4. Amazed says:

That works out to approx. one month for every $1000 he owes so we will spend $60,000 to incarcerate him and we still wont have the approx. $10,000 he owes in fines. There has to be a better way!!

  5. Second glance says:

Of the four options you list, three: the bus, getting a lift, and riding a bicycle, all appear to fall under the “riding a vehicle” prohibition. A mule might be allowable…

  6. Winnie Dread says:

Serious Bra 45 and you have not come to the realisation it have to stop, come on man. When does MAN kick in?

  7. For real though says:

I agree that he should be given community service to work off his debt instead of putting Bermuda into more debt by throwing him in prison. I mean I know he did it to himself, but we shouldn’t have to pay for his stupidity. The roadsides in some neighbourhoods could use a good cleaning. I think this is a good idea.

  8. Just Sayin says:

You all think that this idiot should be left on the street. Until he rides or drives another vehicle whilst disqualified and runs over one of your family members. He obviously has no respect for the law. And there is a place for people like him. The last time I checked it is called prison. Plus wether he is in West Gate or not it still cost the same to run Bermuda’s prisons. So that’s no excuse to keep him or any other habitual criminals out of jail

  9. Think First says:

The saddest part is that if he gets locked up, once he gets out he’ll STILL have his fines to pay….It’s a constant revolving door, because his chances of getting employment after incarceration is slim to none!!!

  10. Vote for Me says:

This represents an indictment for all of us. The most practical solution is community service, possibly attached to the hustle truck. At a minimum, he can be assigned to clear up the areas around the vaious senior citizen residences.

@ just sayin – you are correct. The cost of running the prison will be the same whether he is in or out.
