Upcoming: 2013 KPMG Round The Grounds Race

March 6, 2013

KPMG and The Mid Atlantic Athletic Club are inviting Bermuda’s budding young athletes to take part in the ‘Round the Grounds’ Children’s ’ races , which will commence at 1.00pm on Sunday [Mar 17]. The races start and finish in the Botanical gardens where the rolling route is both scenic and challenging.

A spokesperson said, “Participants of all abilities and aged from 4 to 18 are invited to take part and earn the satisfaction of having tried hard as well as a medal for finishing. Senior school age runners who may have surprised themselves and even ‘enjoyed’ recent school Cross Country races are especially encouraged to sign up and inspire the younger runners.

“As usual the races expect to attract many of the athletes who have enjoyed success in the KPMG Front St Mile and the more recent Telford Mile, Dash in the Dark and Interschool races. Eight year old girl Jade Johnston has recently been challenging Selah Tuzo who has enjoyed previous success in this event.

“While amongst the primary age boys we have seen competition between Ryan Outerbridge and Jayden Ming, the Middle school girls may again be dominated by the fleet feet of Ashley Irby. Others to watch include Messiah Greaves and Aaron Jacobs as well as senior age runners including Kyrah Scraders, Dage Minors, Akim Johnston and Daniel Oately.

“Participants are invited to sign up to the race online on Race Day World. Printed [PDF here] Entry forms are available through your child’s School, in local media, Masterworks and at Sportseller in the Washington Mall where completed forms and payments must be delivered by 4:45pm on Wednesday the 13th of March.

“Last year saw record numbers attend this popular event which is sanctioned by the BNAA and where refreshments will be available and family crafts organised by Masterworks.

“Races will commence at 1:00pm with the 4year olds girls. Please ensure that your child arrives promptly with their number loosely affixed to the front of their shirts. Parking will be available in the Lagoon area South of the gardens.

“This year Race numbers may be picked up the day before the race between noon and 2pm on Saturday the 16th in the courtyard in front of Masterworks. Race chips are embedded in the numbers themselves and the races will be timed by Bermuda Timing.”
