April’s Full Moon Illuminates The Night Sky

April 26, 2013

April’s full moon is traditionally called the “pink moon” – with the pink in the name not referring to the moon’s actual colour, but to wild pink phlox, one of the earliest flowers of spring.

In ancient times, seasons were best tracked by full moons, and they were originally named by Native American tribes in the United States.

I experienced this gleaming moon in the wee-hours this morning while out for a ride. I definitely seemed bigger and brighter than usual. No wonder the early humans worship it. Perhaps that and the fact that it have practical uses (seasons, harvest, …).
