BELCO Donates $1000 To Zoological Society

April 25, 2013

BELCO will donate $1000 to the Bermuda Zoological Society [BZS] on behalf of 115 employees who participated in the company’s Earth Day activities this week.

This year, BELCO celebrated Earth Day by promoting a sustainable travel ‘GreenUp” Challenge that encouraged employees to car pool, cycle, walk or use public transportation to get to and from work. The competition was open to all BELCO employees, as well as Ascendant Group support staff who were divided into teams and challenged to generate the lowest carbon footprint.

BELCO’s ‘GreenUp’ Challenge was coordinated by the company’s Occupational Health, Safety & Environment department, which is responsible for its overall environmental stewardship.

BELCO is the first company in Bermuda to earn internationally recognised ISO 140001 certification for its Environmental Management System [EMS], which commits BELCO to continuous improvement and periodic external audit of its EMS.
