CURB Lunchtime Lecture On Diaspora Trail

April 30, 2013

Citizens Uprooting Racism In Bermuda [CURB] and the Bermuda National Gallery continue their joint lunchtime lecture series on Wednesday [May 1] with a presentation from African Diaspora Heritage Trail’s Maxine Esdaille.

Being held at the City Hall gallery between 12:30-1:30 pm, Ms Edsaille’s talk will focus on the continuing relevance of the African Diaspora Heritage Trail in the contemporary world.

The African Diaspora Heritage Trail had its origins in a cultural heritage tourism initiative developed by the Bermuda Ministry of Tourism in 2001 and which was subsequently endorsed by the United Nations Scientific & Cultural Organisation [UNESCO].

Each year, a conference of participating destinations is held with the primary focus of establishing African Diaspora Heritage Trails that re-link African Diaspora traditions in the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Canada, North and South America.

Additional aims are to highlight and preserve those aspects of the African heritage that can expose visitors to authentic African history and culture; produce a guide in tourism management that can assist ADHT participating destinations in effectively tapping the growing cultural heritage market and develop a network of collaborators that are committed to identifying, building, financing, promoting and marketing cultural heritage tourism destinations.
