Section Of North Shore Rd To Close For Works

April 12, 2013

20130413_080118_resizedThe Ministry of Public Works said they would like to advise all motorists of a road closure on North Shore Road, Smith’s near Gibbons Bay [Police Beach] and Flatts Village, effective this weekend.

The road works are scheduled to take place Friday, April 12th at 6pm and continue until 7pm on Sunday, April 14th.

A spokesperson said, “This road closure is necessary so the Ministry can cut back the cliff face along the south side of North Shore and facilitate road works necessary to create sidewalks and carry out necessary road improvements along the North Shore Road.

“North Shore will be closed to traffic from the junction at Jennings Road to the junction at Store Hill. Resident’s access will be provided only at the Store Hill junction for their properties.

“All traffic travelling in an easterly direction along North Shore Road will be directed along Store Hill and all traffic travelling in a westerly direction along North Shore Road will be directed onto Middle Road.

“To access Flatts Village, all motorists must travel in a northerly direction along Jennings Road and turn right onto North Shore Road and travel in easterly direction to access Flatts Village while these road works take place.

“All bus services on North Shore Road from Middle Road junction to the Store Hill junction will be terminated while these works take place so the Ministry advises bus patrons to go to bus stop locations outside of this road section designated in the bus schedule.

“Should there be inclement weather, road works will be postponed until the next available weekend.

“The Ministry would like to encourage the full cooperation from the motoring public and apologizes for any inconvenience in advance.”

No such place as ‘Police Beach’.It was never owned by the police. Its private property and the members of the police dept were able to use it under the agreement with the owner.

    • Pure Madness!!!!! says:

Ok, thanks for making your point, but as it so happens the public knows it as “Police Beach”. And being in my 40′s I’ve known it as Police Beach not “Gibbons Bay” since a child, as my family frequently used/uses the beach.

    • Just input says:

Who gives $hi+ if it isn’t officially called “police beach”. I’m sure 90% of the public familiar with this area surely doesn’t call it Gibbons Bay! It will forever be Police Beach (unofficially)!

  2. here's a thought.... says:

i think they just put that so people would know exactly where they meant. i, for one, have never heard it called gibbons bay.

  3. Micro says:

Yeah I have no idea where to place either of those names.

Side walk huh, was wondering what they were doing there. Thought they finally came to there senses and was going to widen that section of road.

Wonder if they’ll complete it in its entirety in a weekend, that’d be something.
