Tomorrow’s Voices Autism Awareness Events

April 8, 2013

Tomorrow’s Voices Autism Centre continues to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities with a full slate of fun and creative educational and fundraising events throughout April.

EAT SHOP GIVE

For a fourth year, Tomorrow’s Voices will hold its major fundraiser Eat! Shop! Give! as a fun way to raise funds while promoting local businesses and giving something back to the community. For a $10 donation, consumers receive an Eat! Shop! Give! card, which allows them to access special discounts and promotions only offered to Eat Shop Give cardholders. Tomorrow’s Voices would like to thank Gibbons Company, Brown & Co. and Bermuda Linen & Gifts who are sponsors for Eat! Shop! Give! 2013.

Currently there are over 50 participating merchants island-wide offering value-added discounts for Autism Awareness Month with more coming on board every day. Eat! Shop! Give! runs until April 30th with cards available from A2Z, Bermuda Linen & Gifts, Bonita Beauty Supply, Demco Florist, People’s Pharmacy, Robertson’s Drug Store, Mystique’s, Secrets, Strands, Swizzle Inn Bailey’s Bay, Swizzle Inn South Shore, and from the Tomorrow’s Voices volunteer card booth located in Brown & Co.

Tomorrow’s Voices will also be holding other key events throughout the month such as:

  • April 6 – Saturday Social Skills Group – Come join in as our clients and their typically developing peers participate in their Saturday Social Skills Group. Drop off your child and enjoy a half-day of respite for a small fee.
  • April 19 – Tomorrow’s Voices Open House – Visit the Centre and meet our Staff. Find out what we do and why we do it! See how Applied Behavior Analysis & Verbal Behavior therapy can change lives!
  • April 24 – Training Institute Workshop – Topic: “All About Autism – Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid To Ask!” All participants will receive Professional Development Certificates.
  • April 26 – “Autism Pops” Popcorn Fundraiser – Tomorrow’s Voices will be providing a variety of flavoured popcorn island wide to raise funds for our Centre. We are encouraging schools and companies to participate in this great fundraiser, while we combat Autism one Kernel at a time!
  • April 27 – “Get Puzzled” Scavenger Hunt Fundraiser – Participants will have a great time looking for clues throughout the City of Hamilton while raising funds for Tomorrow’s Voices.

Chairwoman and Co-Founder Thea Furbert stated “I am excited for Tomorrow’s Voices to be able to celebrate Autism Awareness Month with the number and variety of educational, awareness, and fundraising events we have organised this month. With current international studies pointing to an alarming incidence rate now of 1 in 50 children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, we have to do all that we can to educate the public as well as raise much-needed funds to offer services to parents and their children in our communities. These events help us to do that.”
