Dockyard Historical Re-Enactments Begin

May 14, 2013

Running through the summer cruise ship season, Dockyard is now offering a free Historical Re-Enactment for visitors to the cultural and shopping complex every weekday except for Thursday.

In partnership with Select Sites Group, the West End Development Corporation [Wedco] is hosting the reenactments — which got underway on May 5  – from 9.30 a.m. until October 13.

“With actors in period costume giving a short performance to depict life in the Royal Naval Dockyard around 1809, explaining the historical aspects including breakwaters, fortifications, storehouses, workshops and barracks, designed to be an informative and fun event and with the added impact of a cannon being fired during the show, this will be an event not to be missed,” said a Wedco spokesman.

“Visitors will have the opportunity to have a photo taken with one of the actors each day and then to go on and explore the Royal Naval Dockyard and identify the areas they have just learnt about. Shops and restaurants as well as all activities will be open for business. This promises to be a fun glimpse into the history of the Dockyard.”

Immediately after the Re-enactment, there will be a free Walking Tour of Dockyard as well, starting in the Victualling Yard at 9.50 a.m. and ending at the anchor fountain at 10.30 a.m.
