‘Love Thy Neighbour’ Appeal Launched

May 8, 2013

Masterkey Management Ltd. announces its first annual ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ appeal to aid a ‘spring-clean’ for the Centre Against Abuse [CAA]. Opened in May 2012, the property management company will mark its first anniversary by supporting a local charity in order to give back to the community. This year’s ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ beneficiary, the Centre Against Abuse, provides a variety of services to combat domestic abuse for victims and abusers in Bermuda.

Sharika Tucci, Managing Director and founder of Masterkey Management, stated “For many Bermudians their home is a place of refuge and sanctuary, however, for the victims of domestic abuse their home can be a threatening, unsafe environment. The Centre Against Abuse’s Safe House provides an invaluable community service by providing a safe haven for women and their children who want to escape the nightmare of domestic violence.

“The goal of this year’s ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ appeal is to equip the Safe House with the household cleaning supplies necessary to make the living environment as comfortable as possible for its residents. Through my contact with CAA I became aware that household cleaning products are often in short supply and Pledge is considered a ‘luxury’ item. With this newfound knowledge I knew I had to do something to assist.”

According to CAA’s Executive Director, Laurie Shiell, “The Centre Against Abuse recognises domestic abuse not just as a criminal issue, but one which affects all sectors, including public health. Domestic abuse is also a housing issue, a human rights issue, a child protection issue, a mental health issue and so on. All relevant sectors need to play their part in reducing and preventing domestic violence.”

Mrs. Tucci shared, “Masterkey Management has a passion for property management but our heart is for the people within Bermuda’s properties. Although we are a newly established, small local company we believe that we are called to play a part in the well-being of our community by aiding those in need and sparking a desire in the community to ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ through efforts such as this. We cannot stand aside and always rely on large corporations and deep-pocketed philanthropists to assist our charities; each and every resident can make an impact with our collective contributions.”

The ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ appeal will run during a two week period from May 8 – 22. Cleaning products such as Clorox, Pledge, Mr. Clean and Tilex may be dropped off in the marked bin at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick during regular store hours. Alternatively, collection of donated items can be arranged by contacting Mrs. Tucci at 300-7287. In addition, for every ‘like’ on the Masterkey Management Facebook page during the appeal, Masterkey will donate $1 towards the purchase of household cleaning products for the Centre Against Abuse. This will be matched by an anonymous donor.
