Nahki Wells To Pursue Degree In Business

May 20, 2013

Often heralded as a role model for his on-the-field exploits, Bermudian footballer Nahki Wells is aiming to achieve success in another field, with the 22-year-old striker set to pursue a degree in International Business.

The former Dandy Town player and CedarBridge student made history over the weekend, becoming the first Bermudian to score at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London. He slammed home a goal in the 28th minute to propel Bradford to a 3-0 lead over Northampton, and earn them a promotion into the next league.

In an article entitled “All Is Wells,” the game programme mentioned Wells being released by Carlisle two years ago, and said, “Lessons learned by that experience are now set to be followed by lessons of a more academic nature as the striker is set to start an International Business degree.”

“I was going to start working on the online degree when I arrived in England in 2010,” said Wells. “But I have not had the chance to pursue it until now.”

“I’ve not always enjoyed school, but like football I will do what it takes to succeed. I see this degree as a fall back as you never know what is going to happen in football.”

Wells — who was also named Man of the Match — went into the game with a team high 25 goals this season, and called Saturday’s result “a dream come true.”

He told the UK media that, “I’m contracted to Bradford, so I’ll be playing in League One next season,” however rumours continue to circulate that other football teams are interested in the striker, with the UK’s Sun reporting this morning that Crystal Palace want Wells as Wilfried Zaha’s replacement.

In the game programme — which said Wells is “feted” in his native country — the Bermudian said he is always proud to represent both his family and his country when he plays.
