Shaquille Dill Places 3rd In Overseas Meet

May 22, 2013

Nineteen years old Shaquille Dill, 800 metres semi-finalist at last year’s IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, ran a season best and his second fastest time to date at a meet on Saturday.

He clocked a time of 1:50.05 at Cushing Field Complex at UMass Lowell, approximately 25 miles north of Boston, at the second of a series of four New Balance Boston Twilight Meets.

Dill was one of nine runners in a strong field who competed in the first and fastest of three sections of the men’s 800 metres event. Shaquille Dill executed a number of good aspects to his race as he passed three runners over the last 100 metres and was closing the gap on the two leading runners before running out of real estate. He earned third place [with his time of 1:50.05]. The first three runners, that included Dill, crossed the finish line within a span of 0.41 second. Twenty-eight athletes competed in the men’s 800 metres event.

Shaquille Dill began his 2013 competitive season one month ago at the three-day Sea Ray Relays Meet at the University of Tennessee. At that meet he competed in the Open section of the men’s 400metres and the men’s 800m Showcase event. He ran a fifth place time of 48.14 seconds in the 400m metres (among the 0pen field of more than 40 athletes) and earned third place with a time of 1:50.48 in the 800 metres Showcase event.

Plans are underway to have Shaquille compete in the fourth and final New Balance Boston Twilight meet on June 8 in Waltham, Massachusetts and the New England Open Track and Field Championships toward the end of June. Dill was accompanied, on both occasions, by his coach Gerry Swan.
