Volleyball: Bermuda Lose To Jamaican Team

June 2, 2013

Jamaica and Bermuda met up yesterday [June 1] at the NORCECA Second Round Group M Qualification Tournament of the FIVB Women’s World Championship in Jamaica, with the host team defeating Bermuda in straight sets 25-11, 25-16, 25-8.

“We got together as a team after a slow start and the key for the win were our services which caused mistakes to the other team and we capitalized,” Jamaica’s captain Shedeiky Hamilton said.

Jamaica’s coach Gatasheau Bonner was happy to get the first match out of their way and the pressure of playing in front of the local fans.

“We need to communicate better,” Bermudian Vikky Stevenson said. “It was a tough opponent and it was a step forward for our team.”

Bermuda Coach Juanita Blee said: “We came here not knowing much about Jamaica. Our passing needs to improve and the Jamaicans served exceptionally well. It is our first match and we will improve as the tournament goes on.”
