Court: Man Fined $3,150 After Police Chase

July 9, 2013

Appearing in Magistrates Court Mandel Outerbridge, 35, was fined just over $3,000 after pleaded guilty to multiple traffic offences.

On July 8, Police had noticed Outerbridge riding a cycle on Church Street while carrying a pillion passenger who was not wearing a helmet.

Outerbridge failed to stop when requested and led Police on a chase that led through town, the wrong way through Canal Road, and ended with Outerbridge’s capture in Black Watch Pass after he had ditched the bike and attempted to run away.

Charges stemming from the incident include refusing to take the alco-analyzer test when requested to do so by police, riding an unlicensed cycle, having no third party insurance, no drivers licence and driving in a manner dangerous to the public.

Outerbridge was fined $1,650 for the traffic charges. For refusing to take the breath test, he was fined $1,500 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for twelve months.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner then referred to outstanding warrants and old unpaid fines totalling $1,250, which he also ordered Outerbridge to pay.
