Disabled Yacht Assisted After Passing Squalls

Occupants aboard a disabled yacht off Spittal Pond contacted Harbour Radio on Saturday [July 27] for assistance after suffering engine failure. The vessel was instructed to anchor and prepare for gusty winds accompanying an approaching rain squall.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Saturday 27th July at 3:20pm, a member of the public reported a small yacht in difficulties off Spittal Pond.

“A minute later the 27 ft. sailing vessel “BRAZUDA” contacted Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre confirming they had suffered engine failure and had three persons aboard. During the approaching rain squalls, the vessel was instructed to anchor and prepare for gusty winds.

“The marine contractor Sea Assist was able to proceed to the vessel and provide assistance with getting the engine started and the vessel proceeded under own power, returning to Mills Creek at 6.00pm”.
