Beach Tennis Tournament From August 22

Pro and amateur beach tennis players as well as fans of the growing sport will descend on Bermuda for the International Tennis Federation’s 6th annual Bermuda Beach Tennis Tournament, taking place from August 23 – 25 at Horseshoe Bay Beach.

The Fairmont Southampton, the event’s host hotel, is offering rates starting at $199.00 USD per night based on double occupancy. The Beach Tennis Tournament Package is available for stays from Thursday, August 22 to Sunday, August 25. Spectator viewing is welcome and admission to the tournament is free.

The three-day Beach Tennis Tournament combines the fun of sports, sea and sand on the island credited with formally introducing tennis to America. Using the same scoring system and rules as regular doubles tennis, the only major difference between beach tennis and its traditional counterpart is the use of a paddle bat instead of a racket, along with a slightly depressurized tennis ball.

For both amateur and professional men and ladies players, the tournament commences on Friday, August 23 with the opening rounds and culminates with the final match on Sunday, August 25 when a champion is crowned. Amateur beach tennis players, who can win outstanding prizes from local vendors and restaurants, can sign up here.

This year’s professional side will feature a $10,000 purse that will be split evenly between the men and ladies, including a first place prize of $2,500 per player. The pro tournament features some of the best players in the world, The pro tournament features some of the best players in the world, including former world champions Alex Mingozzi and Alessandro Calbucci of Italy.

Players from the United States, Aruba, Bermuda, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, the French Reunion Islands, Holland, Italy Spain and the United Kingdom have all participated in the festivities. The week prior to Bermuda’s beach tennis tournament is the Long Beach New York Open, which features a lot of the same pro athletes who will be making the trip south to compete in the Bermuda event.
