Looks like the recent number of shootings and murders in our community puts the fictitious crime stats back into true perspective, again we are faced with a high serious crime rate and a seriously low apprehension and conviction rate, this is despite the fact we have a police service with every tool available, perhaps our top cops bonus should be based on real results, I fail to understand how we can continually reward individuals for such dismal and failed performance and service to our community. The police are asking for help from the very people (public) they continue to dissrespect and look down on. Dr Evil gave the police permission to carry guns and to my knowlege that has not facilitated one single apprehension but only serves to make them “look good” surely there are people within the BPS that know where the problems are, and are not afraid to tackle the problems and wont hide under their desks all day waiting on pension day coming, these people should be identified and promoted to the top positions where they can fill the leadership void that exists.

so are you suggesting that the police can stop gang violence?? well if that happens, Bermuda would be the first place in the world where that has happened.. just saying.. you can hire all the top police in the world, but that is only a reactive response, the island needs a pro-active response..

Can start with the young ladies, instead of the young man,, if the families of these ladies start teaching them the importance of choosing responsible partners and not glorifying the gangster lifestyle and all that comes with it.. Thats the difference I have noticed in Bermuda since when I was younger. I am not saying the women where perfect years ago, but they had a standard that we guys have to live up to. It wasnt something that was documented, but we guys knew that if we acted or dressed a certain way, we would never find that partner of right girl, and truth be told, young people are impressionable and young guys don’t do things that put them in a bad light with the ladies..

if the ladies raised their standards, the guys will have to follow.. but these young ladies (or girls nowadays) glorify this nonsense, its a big part of their conversations, they sadly in some sort of way, look up to these gangs and gangsters, so the guys are not going to stop doing what they do, until their peers hold them accountable for their actions.. we as older people can talk to we are gone fully grey, but its not going to have the same impact..

thats just my opinion of course.

As a young female, I totally agree with this statement. I see it in my age group for sure!

I think if you read what I wrote properly (which is always a good idea before responding)you will read that I am not for a second suggesting the police can stop anything but with the proper leadership can help better control it, I further speak to the fact that without the police respecting the public there will continue to be little or no public help in the passing of information to help solve crime, and the ONLY response we ever see from the BPS is a reactive one, thanks for the chance to clarify that.

        Well written, good points!

  3. why girl/YGirl says:

    @Y-girl,

it is clear you are antipolice everytime there is something about police you have a negative spin. Hey the man was caught hours after the stabbing. the shooting took place on the same day. Police dont make crime happen and they can predict were it will happen.

I aint no brain doctor, but they have over 20 people in jail in the last 15 months. they are doing their job.

how do you blame police when in the stabbing….. How should police stop that? The victim just got out of jail two days before he was stabbed?
Y girl you need to put more time being a part of the solution.

    • WHAYADUMB says:

You say the bps is doing their job……. what ever they are super lame. They don’t know how to investigate a murder (seen that for myself) , locking up the wrong ppl n letting the real a**es out to continue to destroy this island.. WAKE UP

    • Y-Gurl says:

Your right….you are no brain doctor, you couldn’t even pick a unique handle for yourself!

  4. Y-girl is a fool says:

Y-girl, you are an idiot! get a life!

  5. ygurl is hurt says:

Ygurl is either,an serving officer, ex-cop, disgruntled excop, dated or married or used to be married to an officer but your bias comes out loud and clear. You are so transparent.

Get over your personal issues, your comments are always the same if the topic,is the police we can be assured you will come with the same position.

  6. Plato says:

Look at all the.. sitting at their desks in the middle of the day attacking ygirl personally because her points are right, your proving her right that police are lame.

  7. Tashae' H says:

Glad to know the health of the victim isn’t life threatening.

Bermudians are so self absorded in their own opinions. Do you even care about the state of the individual? We need less hate & more love; not only in our actions but our words.

Get your minds right someone is laid up and the “lovely” supporters of bernews are arguing over who is to blame for the increase in violence and lack of apprehension. Witness the blatant lack of unity, the shortage of role models, parents who blindly raise children without sound family values! We are all to blame for the condition Bermuda is in.

Those who are not willing to salvage a solution are equally to blame as those creating the problem. Free yourselves from mental slavery my people.

    • OneLove BDA says:

I couldn’t agree with you more Tashae’ H, very well said.

  8. Think about the Child they are not dumb. says:

I understand what @Y-Gurl is saying and i also agree on both points, Bermuda Police can stop the gang violence becasue it is true many of them know where many gangular activities take place in. But @Ygurl/whygurl you say, “aint no brain doctor, but they have over 20 people in jail in the last 15 months. they are doing their job” Think about the crimes those people who they are cathing are, PETTY CRIMES, people with warrants for not paying their bills, child support, tickets when they should really be craking down on the hard knockers the theives, the drug lords, the gangbangers and trust me i dont see them doing random searches to people sitting on the walls or habging around bus stops or hanging around stores. PLACES WHERE THEY REALLY DO,THEIR DIRTY WORK.
