Minister Gibbons opens Bermuda Engineering Solar ShowroomBermuda Engineering Company hosted the grand opening of their St John’s Road solar showroom earlier this week.

Bermudians of all ages and from all walks of life were on hand to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony and festivities to follow.

People were impressed by the solar displays, including a roof cross-section showing how the solar panels are mounted to a Bermuda roof. Refreshments and a DJ were well received by the crowd, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Minister of Economic Development Dr. Grant Gibbons, Travis Burland and Stuart Kriendler.

Travis Burland, Chief Engineer, stated, “First of all, thank you to all of our distinguished guests as well as our esteemed colleagues at the Department of Planning, the Department of Energy and BELCO and our wonderful clients, guests, and friends.

“Wow, what a great day, this is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication from the Bermuda Engineering team to put together Bermuda’s first solar and energy savings showroom. Many of you may not know, but my great grandfather started this business in the 1930’s. He had installed a wind turbine at his home in Paget, and had grand designs for the Bermuda solar water heater. Here we are today, proud to present our new showroom to the public!

“Our goal is to help Bermudians connect with cost effective solutions to help reduce their electricity costs and impact on the environment. Everything from energy efficient lighting to solar technologies, we aim to offer a range of solutions for every Bermudian home and business with a view to reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels and utilize our local resources in a more effective capacity.

Stuart Kriendler, Manager and Solar Specialist said,“Thank you Travis. Good afternoon everyone, it is an honour to be here today and a privilege to be a part of such a strong team that is making solar and energy efficiency solutions easier to access and more affordable than ever before, for all of Bermuda.

“I want to say a huge thank you to all of our stakeholders, especially our clients and our staff, which is all Bermudian, by the way, for all your support as Bermuda Engineering has gone from strength to strength and is now Bermuda’s leading solar provider, offering unparalleled service and quality. We are proud to be the first company to officially open a showroom in Bermuda entirely dedicated to solar and energy efficiency technology.

“I want to take a minute to share with you information from Anthony R. Ingraffea, a professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Cornell University in an article he wrote which was in the NY Times over the weekend, ‘We have renewable wind, water, solar and energy-efficiency technology options now.

“We can scale these quickly and affordably, creating economic growth, jobs and a truly clean energy future to address climate change. Political will is the missing ingredient. Meaningful carbon reduction is impossible so long as the fossil fuel industry is allowed so much influence over energy policies and regulatory agencies. Policy makers need to listen to the voices of independent scientists while there is still time.’

Bermuda Engineering has completed over 50 solar projects in Bermuda and will be completing many more solar PV installations, in the coming months.
