Coalition Kicks Off 2013 Back To School Drive

August 14, 2013

The Coalition for the Protection of Children is kicking off its 2013 Back to School Drive. Each year the Coalition assists families in preparing their children for the new school year.

“As with other areas of need in recent times, the demand for assistance with school uniforms and school supplies is significantly higher than before the recession hit”, a spokesperson said.

“For families that already struggle week to week to provide for the most basic needs of their children, the beginning of the school year can be an especially stressful and worrying time for parents who cannot find the extra dollars to re-equip their children with the supplies and clothing required.

“The Coalition assists client families with uniforms and supplies where it can, but with the need up and the funding down, it will be a particularly difficult year in terms of our ability to assist.

“If any individuals, families or companies are interested in supporting parents at this difficult time, they are welcome to donate school uniforms and school shoes in good condition or vouchers to the English Sports Shop, the Stationary Store, or other supplies and clothing vendors, or to donate in-kind. Lunch boxes, school bags, and pencil cases are all helpful.

“Additionally, we are set to kick off our 7th year of our Breakfast for Every Child program. Currently we are operating in five schools, serving breakfast every school morning to any child who turns up. Our big initiative this year is to switch from disposable bowls, cups, and utensils to reusable ones.

“We are seeking volunteers who are willing to help assist with the washing up duties, in addition to greeting and interacting with the children who participate in the program. The program runs from 7:30am to 8:30am from Monday to Friday and any interested volunteers can email nicola.cpc@logic.bm for more information”.
