Cost Saving: Tynes Bay Drop Off Times Changed

August 30, 2013

The Ministry of Public Works said that effective September 1st, 2013 the Tynes Bay Public Drop Off will be changing the hours of operation as follows:

  • Weekdays: 9 am to 6 pm
  • Saturdays: 7 am to 7 pm
  • Sundays: 1 pm to 6 pm
  • Public Holidays: 9 am to 12 pm
  • Closed Christmas Day

A spokesperson said,”The new hours have been implemented as a cost saving measure. The Tynes Bay Public Drop-Off is a free waste disposal service available to drivers of private cars and LP vehicles dumping household waste only. All commercial haulers are reminded to utilize the facility’s weigh scale for dumping of commercial waste.

“The drop-off facility also accepts small amounts of special waste items such as paints, oils, pesticides and recyclables. The Ministry would like to thank the public for their cooperation and support.”

For further information call the solid waste section at 278-0560.

With the current state of the governments finances I’d agree that 7AM to 7PM every day is a bit much. However, I think the weekday drop off would be have been better as 8AM to 5PM. It is for households and who wants to leave rubbish locked up in their car all day while they’re at work. People start work at 9AM so it would have been better to let people drop off in the morning before going to work.

      I agree!

Disagree!! Lots of service workers start at 7 or 8 a.m. and some start work at 3 p.m. We need it to be open before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m.

These published hours work for us, especially the weekend and holiday hours. Thanks, Tynes Bay Staff – we love you!
