August 4, 2013

Six Bermuda junior tennis players began taking part in the JITIC 2013 Tennis Tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Saturday [Aug 3].

The Under 16 players all had two Singles matches on Day One of the Round Robin stage. All players are in separate pools of 4 competitors and therefore have to play 3 matches. The top 2 players from each group will go to the main draw. The bottom 2 players will finish out the week in the Consolation draw.

Courtland Boyle turned in the best results winning both his matches in straight sets, Boyle defeated Jordan Lawrence and Traqel Lewis.

On the down side, Nicholas Lines put in a great effort but was on the losing end of both his matches against Marcelo Rodriguez and Serigo Zapata and looks likely to be in the consolation event.

With matches against Amdres Argenal and Jhosly Van’t Kruys, the fate of Billy Boyle is still in the air as he finished his day with one win and one loss, both matches in 3 sets. He will have to settle himself early tomorrow as he has another tough match and must win to have a chance of joining the preferred draw.

The Under 14′s had their Opening Round Robin matches as well at the Dominican National Center. Luke Stirling has split his first two matches, Dylan Powell went down in both his two matches played, while Ben Lines, competing for the first time in this region was scheduled for one match and was on the losing end of that result.
