Day #2: HSBC BJGA International Golf Classic

August 7, 2013

The Mid Ocean Club hosted the second round of the 2013 HSBC BJGA International Classic today [Aug 7]. Conditions could not have been better with the Mid Ocean Club in glorious shape and bathed in sunshine.

In the 16-18 Division, Mitchell Campbell took advantage of the fine conditions to post the low round of the day, shooting a solid round of 76. Mitchell takes a four stroke lead into the final round over his younger brother Walker, who struggled on the front nine and posted an 84. Justin Dixon Watts remains in third place following a round of 83, however, Daniel Hetzel made a big move, recovering from his round of 91 on day one with a round of 78 today to close the gap. Jordan Saunders rounds out the division with a round of 95. With only six shots separating the top three, there is a lot to play for in tomorrow’s final round at Port Royal.

Elizabeth Parsons again put together a solid round but marred with three double bogies and a triple bogey to finish with an 85.

Dakota Lamb has taken control of the 13-15 Division with a fine round of 78 with the first round leaders backing up. Dakota bogeyed the 18th to fire an even par back nine, recovering from a front nine which included a double bogey and a triple bogey. James Robertson sits seven shots behind following his round of 88. Brady Cordeiro is in third, a further seven shots behind after a round of 85. Mikus Ming couldn’t recapture his scoring form from yesterday and struggled at the finish to post a second round 96. All three of the first-time players improved on their first round scores, encouraging them all heading into the final round at Port Royal.

In the 12 and under division, Joe Watson pegged back one shot from favourite Kenny Leseur with his round of 102 besting Kenny’s 103. Kenny’s lead heading into the final round is just eight shots which is not insurmountable over the treacherous closing holes at Port Royal in the final round.

The Novice Division had the day off today and Tyler Emery will be looking to protect his five shot lead in the final round at Port Royal in the morning.

“The BJGA would like to thank the Mid Ocean Club for hosting us today and also for hosting the opening BBQ on Monday evening to kick off the HSBC BJGA Week of Golf. We are looking forward to an exciting day of golf tomorrow with tee times beginning at 10:30 am at Port Royal Golf Course,” a spokesperson said.
